Once you have been in a city for so long you get to know where and how to get places easily and cheaply.. I hate seeing new people to city paying over the odds and getting ripped off. There are so many cool places to visit, eat, hangout, drink, party, chill. whatever.. for free or for very little cost. My goal is to illuminate all tourists from the tourists traps ;)

Top 3 best burgers in Barcelona!!
Monday, June 18, 2012

So where can you get the best Burger in Barcelona? After months and months of try and testing, experimenting with different options on the menu, trying all the different sauces and every single combination, we have come to the final conclusions. Each one of these three are quite a different experience so we recommend to try them all, at least then you know you have definitely eaten the best burger in barcelona :) They are all located not so far from one another luckily enough, in the district El Born..

For opening hours, prices and other information click on images..

 Bacoa Burger

"With a great selection made from fine fresh produce and freshly home made bread it is easy to see why. They serve all of their burgers fresh off of the grill and straight onto the bun. Going to the extra mile with the flavours seems to have paid off for them and this makes a Bacoa burger definitely worth the 5euros!"

Kiosko Gourmet Burger

"Kiosko Gourmet burger‘s are irresistible. They are very good at what they do and that is provide unbelievably tastie burgers. The meats here simply melt in your mouth. They do have quite a large selection of burgers, but we recommend going for the basic burgers on first visit such as the Manchego or Chicken option.
To make your gourmet burger even more delicious, all the sauces that you get are homemade and unique to kiosko."

Pim Pam Burger

"Delicious burgers served with plenty of sauce! At Pim Pam burger, all their ingredients are very fresh and are also all organic! We recommend the “complete” burger with its 100% beef and all the extras you will need. The place can get a little bit crowded. You may end up waiting around fifteen minutes but it will be definitely worth it when it arrives! The chips are handmade are a must! Excellent value for around 5euros per burger!"

Easiest English speaking jobs in Barcelona
Wednesday, June 13, 2012

Having lower wages compared to some of europe, Barcelona is the ideal place for companies to have their call centres. A lot of which offer long term contracts. You will be working around 37hours per week, you get 4 weeks off a year and you will get you around 1150 euros (after tax) in your back pocket each month. With rent prices dropping over the last couple of years you can now get a room for between 250-350euros per month, so these jobs are ideal for no stress and leaving you with enough spending money each week to really enjoy yourself.

So where can we find these english speaking jobs in barcelona? You may pick up the metropolitan magazine and look through but most likely it is the same cut and paste from last months issue. To be honest call centers in Barcelona will only hire when they need at least 5 new people at one time. So they will continue to advertise each month regardless if there are positions free at the time. Our advise is to keep applying.. if nobody has been in touch its not because you aren’t qualified for the job, its more likely they are just not looking yet.

If you have experience in any kind of customer service or call centre work and have a good attitude, you have a good chance of landing one of these jobs. They just want to know you are going to turn up on time and be consistent in your work.. and this basically just means either answering incoming calls to book hotel rooms or cars, or making outbound calls to people in the UK for research or to get them interested in some kind of product or membership. Each company obviously has its own rules, but outside of the actual job role itself, these are great place to meet fellow expats and travelers. Everybody is helpful and wanting to make new friends, you will find yourself meeting people from all over the world with different stories and beliefs.

CPM – Call center located near Sagrada Familia. They have inbound teams that take calls from the UK with people wishing to book Travelodge hotel rooms. There is also a few outbound teams that concentrate on calling people in the UK. A recent project was calling people who had recently stopped their milk contract and just convincing them to keep it going.

SellbyTel
 –
Pretty much what is says on the tin. Call centre for outbound sales. If you have a big mouth and find it easy convincing people to buy things then this is your place.

Avis - Call center located at the world trade center right near the harbour. One of the better call centers. Inbound team involves taking calls from different places and booking car rentals for people. They give bonuses for high performance and pay double wages twice a year.

Colt - Helpdesk for telecommunications. You'll be taking incoming calls and basically being the first point of contact for clients before they speak with the engineers. A bit harder than the other jobs but will pay in the region of 1700euros per month and you also get 200euros worth of restaurant vouchers a month also.

There are lots of people who head to Barcelona with an idea of working in some amazing bar. True, there are lots of bars in Barcelona but there is also more than enough people to work in them so it is a very crowded market. If you are going to live in Barcelona, even just for a short time, we advise securing a call center job first, its more than enough money to survive and be happy and is a great place to meet other expats.

There is one thing to be careful of. When looking for jobs (especially on loquo.es) there are a lot of scams and also a lot of illegal companies. Avoid applying for any jobs that offer “wages up to 100k”. These jobs are illegal and a lot of them earn their money from stealing from elderly members of the UK and other english speaking countries by tricking them into investing false shares and other things. Sometimes they will come across as legitimate so you need to be weary and make sure you research the company before saying yes to a job.

5 places in Barcelona to get full for 4 euros
Monday, June 11, 2012

Barcelona is full of exciting places to eat. If you’re strapped for cash and you find a few euro coins in your back pocket (we’ve all been there), there are still some amazing foods to be had. Here is our list of the best places to eat in the city with only 4 euros to your name!

Bo De B

3.50 euros for the chicken and salad sandwich that will keep you full for more than half a day! (The other 50 cents can be used to buy a coca cola from the shop two doors down)

Menjar Per Emportar

Curry and rice for 4euros or 3.50 for the biggest durum in Barcelona. Located just off placa trippy. Quite hard to find as its only a tiny door way and there is no sign.

Ming Ren

Chinese Restaurant near Arc De Triumf. You’ll be able to get a large rib or dumpling soup for 4euros. If you find another 1euro in your pocket you can even treat yourself to a beer here.

Cava Bar

You can get a nice fat burger here for 3.50 euros. Then ask for them to fill up a glass of cava for you and after two drinks you’ll still come away with some change.

Bismillah Kebabish

Really tasty chicken curry with rice for 4euros. Enough said!

There are definitely more options for eating which can still cost you less than 10 euros but we strongly recommend trying these five first. We have been very strict and hand picked the top five that each have their own quirk and Barcelona spirit about them. Happy eating!

A cheap Barcelona
Monday, June 4, 2012

After being in Barcelona for a number of years, and for a lot of time not having much money, it is really hard for me to see people (usually new visitors to the city) being ripped off when i know there is so much to do here for free or at a very small cost.

Barcelona has somehow been given a reputation for being quite an expensive city compared to the rest of the Spain but this is through the eyes of the untrained and unfamiliar people of the city and is not true. There are lots of places to eat in which, you will not only come away full and satisfied but you would also include a drink and be paying less than 5 euros.

Accomodation prices have come down so much in the last three years aswell. Now it is very easy to get a room in the city for around 250-350euros and your own flat for 600-800euros. i want to write so much here but unfortunately i have to leave my first post at this. i will be posting up a lot of tips and things to avoid in the city to make your visit, as long or short, as enjoyable and unexpensive as possible..

PS There is a list of a few of the places to eat for 4euros each at http://barcelona-underground.com/5-amazing-places-eat-barcelona-4euros/
