GIBRALTA AS A MILITARY BASE

I heard a noise like a prolonged thunder clap in the early hours of Saturday morning, and realised that it was the noise of large planes flying over to Gibraltar. Does any one know anything about this. The News was naturally filled with information on the Earthquake and tsunamis in Japan, so I didn't hear anything about Libya or Nato. Does any one know what's going on?
