Commuting from the UK.....anyone doing it?

Hi everyone

Thanks so much for all the feedback on the apartments.  We know it will all be perfect when finished - we were just shocked cos they told us it was ready to move into and it obviously wasn't.

Our lawyer is our Power of Attorney and bless him he had a massive heart attack last week so signing has no happened.  I am flying over mid Jan to sign up and get a replace P of A.  Then it will be all systems go

Pleased the weather was so good when you got back to your apartment, thanks for keeping us updated with the progress at El Rincon, I have had photos from Brian and Helen (posted Dec) showing phase 1 pool area as completed so I was wondering if the ground work you've mentioned is for phase 2 at El Rincon ?

It is really useful having the updates as we really are not sure when we are due to complete on our apartment, we were originally told July 2007 but have a date of March for the final payment (which is on completion) so any photos and/or updates help fuel the excitement and aticipation of what will be.

So thanks again for the time you have taken.

Update!

Since the vino is now wearing off, we have noticed that people are living in one apartment that we can see from our balcony.

It is on the 2nd floor, corner apartment nearest to La Mirada, facing the sea.

The builders have not been on site today, but i suspect this is because of the New Year weekend. All supermarkets are closed Sunday and Monday, so i have had to stock up on vino for the next few days!

I am not sure of the phases, but tomorrow I am out with the camera to get some shots for you all. Hopefully, I can dodge the security guard and get inside the building grounds. At least he doesn't have a dog with him, so it might be a breeze!

I will also take some photos from the roof of La Mirada, hopefully I don't fall offf!

We were given a completion date of July, but have been told that this has been brought forward, and we can choose a date of April or May.

Anyway, does anyone know about air conditioning units? What manufacturer/type/size to get. Do the retailer's fit it?

What about tv satellite systems? Any recommendations?

Not sure about air con, we don't have it, but I do know that in the large supermarkets like Carrefour, have special offers (offertas) on units but only at certain times of the year. You will always find, by word of mouth, someone local and English who will fit them for you. Most units are heaters too but I have heard they can be expensive to run. We settled for ceiling fans which have worked well for us, but then we avoid coming here in August when it is at it's hottest.

As for TV, we have a mesh TV arial on the roof and have a contract with Cina, they are local, at La Zenia and we pay 19€ per month. That gives us all the UK channels, Sky Sports 1 & 2, Eurosport and Sky movies 1 & 2. Plus other UK channels and of course the Spanish TV.

In the UK, just to get the sport & movie channels, our cable provider would charge £35 per month!

I think all phase 1 and 2 have air con fitted as standard we got our keys in november and ours has got it in  the lounge and both bedrooms,if you have a look on the spec folder it should tell you.

Thanks all of you for all the wonderful information on El Rincon and the pics!  I am now coming down next week to sign up as I think I mentioned our Lawyer had heart attack the morning he was due to sign.  Our apartment was one of the limited touriste ones so came with air con etc but the tv info was useful as I wondered if we all had to be with the same company for dishes etc as the community where we have our villa all dishes have to conform.  Are the connections in the walls for the tvs already or do we need those put in?

The tv/cable sockets are already installed,you should only need a sky box with monthly subscription as these should all run off the main dish on the roof .

We didn't have time to get a box sorted but did get the tv running with about 6 spanish channels.

We have really enjoyed reading the letters from everone and are really looking forward to meeting you all.

We believe phase 2 is going to be ready from May onwards.

Hi stability,

Hope everyone has had a look at the photos I have posted in the last few days and I hope I covered most angles!

As for the Marina, there has been talk of one being built on our part of the coastline since we bought at La Mirada in Nov 2003. At first, we were told that the land cliffside on the N332 was owned by the military and would never be built on, however, at the roundabout by Alemeda Del Mar by Lidls, the road sign shows "Urbanisations" towards the sea! Now we hear that your builder is continuing your style of apartments on the cliffside.

At the roundabout at Punta Prima, there is a new development going up called La Marina. Which I think does give the game away!  Also, there is a walkway being built from the beach at Playa Flamenca going through via La Zenia, Le Capitans Beach and roung to Capo Roig. The walk way at Punta Prima has not been continued, hence leaving a "gap" between the two walkways which is opposite our developments. This is where I believe the new marina will be built. By the way, the new walkway is spectacular, all white marble with seats and lighting. We took a stroll from La Zenia round to Le Capitans beach and it's so much nicer than scrambling over the rocks. When it's finished totally (parts are still fenced off at Playa Flamenca), it will make a brilliant walk along our lovely coastline.

We went to the Town Hall in Playa Flamenca last week and there are plans of the whole area, what's being built and where. I must admit, we stupidly only looked at what was going to be built in front of us, (next door to you) and didn't check out the Marina!

I suggest that next time you visit, g o to the Town Hall yourself. The room you need to go to is upstairs, bear to your right, the last room on the left. Wait outside untill invited in though, we didn't and the Spanish official was not amused! He made us go back out and then called us in.....what a pair of naughty schoolkids.........aged 52 & 54....ha!

We have been told by our agent  that a first class marina is to be built with shops restaurnts etc,and the 30k walkway will be connected,also two new beaches are to be made, we think this will be great for the area, and hope they do start in the not to distant future. The land IS owned by our builder and it has to be started within 3 years,all planning permission has been granted, so we have been told.

Oh that's great news, it will get rid of the nudist beach then, that's better for us as we don't participate!

2 new beaches will be great for us all here, just across the road, lovely!

Marina and walkway sounds terrific, all our agent said was that walkway would be completed eventually but that was three years ago. The beaches sound much more attractive than the nudist ones, especially witha youngster in tow. Will have to check out the plans when we come over shortly. Is Playa Flamenca Town Hall the one that we walk past on the way to the shopping complex?

The Town Hall is on the right handside of the N332, sea on your left. It is next door to the rather dowdy supermarket called Plus in Playa Flamenca.

If anyone has been out to Playa Flamenca recently or is due out soon could they check out the development at Playa Flamenca beach (photos would be good), when we were there last May they were working on the area between the two beaches and we were wondering how it now looks (if finished).

Also for those that have completed at El Rincon phase 1 do we get security grills on the utility window ?
