Just viewed Ted's pics on Flickr.......Thanks Ted great set of pics as usual. I fully agree with your comments re progress. Some areas of the course look no more developed than when I was last there at Easter, & it will be well into 2010 before those holes are ready, however other sections - particulalrly the early holes on the front 9 & the 18th are clearly developing rapidly & maybe Novemeber is still a possibility for a loop of 9 holes to be ready.
The lack of water in the lakes is a worry. Apart from the negative effect on the astetic appearance of the course (looks more like a construction site again, than a golf course) I just hope PW have not got water shortage problems. Maybe they have run the water down to ease the fly problems? Any thoughts anyone??
It's a shame they have not progressed the driving range with a bit more urgency. I am sure a number of us would have made use of that this summer. A smsll kiosk selling driving range balls & a few beers with a few tables & chairs would have been well handy
Thanks Again Ted
Skell

How do we locate the photo's - is there a link posted ??
Always did think it was an ambitious statement to say the course would be ready in November having seen where it was in April as well. Greens yes, but no way when there is no signs of grass on fairways in April is it ready for play in November (not even in never never land !). Just could not believe that a course of the stature of what Condado is bill-boarded to be would be opened before the fairways were fit & ready to take serious wear & tear. It would be wrecked before you know it.
Regards,

Hi
Looking at the photos it looks like there are lot's of units for shops, etc...... I do hope that these gets filled and prices are competitive for the area. That way people will go there and shop and mean that the shops won't be forced to shut up due to lack of trade. There is potential for this Foro to succeed and become a good gathering point where we can have a drink and eat in a relaxing part of the reort. All it takes is for PW to realise this and get things sorted.

Great photo's Ted, it looks like it could well be ready in October/Novwmber. They must be at it non-stop, we came back four weeks ago and it has progressed alot even in that time.

I think it does look more developed than at Easter. Afterall it must be porogressing with amount of people working on it, the water being poured into it and summer is the growing time. I wonder if they put water in the lakes to establish them and prevent scrub and weeds growing through, then top them up nearer the opening time.

Well folk's,
Any of our poster's a bookie ?
As much as I would love to think Condado will be in play this year, recognising the difference in Ted's photo's since we were there in April, will the next 4 months get the course into a condition where it could withstand the usage wear and tear through the winter months ? I just think it would not be hardened in enough. Would Jack sanction the opening with his name synonomous against the course condition six months later showing the signs of wear & tear where roots have not had a chance to bed in? I just don't think so somehow and my bet would be on a spring 2010 opening. Any experienced greenkeepers out there with any thoughts ?
regards,

I have to agree with you, I just can't see it being ready till next spring despite the obvious progress it is making. Anyway, I would rather they wait till it is 100% ready rather than open before it is in the required condition, afterall Codado is going to be here for years to come and we want only good publicity for the place.
If we have a course in poor condition the news will travel quickly and it will take a long time to get golfers going there on mass, this would then affect the rental market for property holders and as a further knock on the facilities within the development will take longer to come to fruition as there will be less earning potential.
Much as I'm desparate to play the course I am prepared to be patient and wait to ensure we have the best course and facilities around thus increasing the value of my asset on Condado.

I dunno how grass grows over there, but if I left my garden for the 5 months until November, it would be about 3 feet high...... But I've noticed some patches on the fairways there, that the grass isn't growing at all and other places where it isn't matting together very well, does anybody know why that would happen? I must say it looks like it's gonna be worth the wait, no matter how long it takes to finish. But I am a bit concerned about playing there with the strong winds that we usually get at Condado, it should be a Great Challenge, roll on 2010....... Geoff

the greens are the most important bit of the course and they have look nearly ready .polaris have had trouble on other courses with the greens when they opened them too early.im guessing they dont want to make the same mistake again so im sure they will ge the timing right this time.after all we have 1/2 a year till december so still loads of time .the bunkers have now started to be filed.the fairways in spain can grow in 2/3 months with a decent watering.december seems a good bet imho.

Hi Folks
When a new course is built the greens and tees are always the first to be done before they then concentrate on the fairways etc however having been out there last week my opinion is that there is no chance of the course being open this year and think March/April is a safer bet as if they are in any doubt the Nicklaus Design team will not allow it to be rushed through as you have to remember this is going to be compared with the best courses not only Spain but Europe. Was speaking to one of the greenkeepers when out there and although Nicklaus Design have built courses throughout Europe this is the first course he has personally overseen himself outside America.
