Manzano snack bar and sports facilities

Just spent 2 weeks on Condado and I was extremely disappointed by the latest position on the sports facilities:

- tennis, paddel and basketball courts are all locked.  People have prised open the tennis and basketball surround fencing to squeeze in, whilst someone has attempted to prise open the paddel court locks with a screwdriver to get access.  Both of which will have to be rectified when common sense prevails.

- someone has drawn with black marker pen on the paddel court perspex wall of one court

Firstly it is unacceptable that these facilities are not available to us, and how can they be locked??

Secondly, vandalism of the facilities either through forcing entry or graffiti is equally not acceptable if we want this to be first class/5 star resort.

- the Manzano snack bar is completely gutted of all fixtures and fittings apart from pub tap equipment (probably owned by brewery)

- the gym (which I was told was equipped) was empty and no sign of any equipment

- the telephone from outside Manzano was removed on Monday (I think by Polaris Telecom)

There was hot debate about the charges of the facilities a couple of months ago, but high charges are much better than the degradation of facilities we now have.

Does anybody know what is happening with all of this?

The sports facilities were sold off to the banks by Polaris World to pay off some of thier debts.

Did I mention the 7 children running across the fairway and onto 6th green as I was driving my ball down the centre of the fairway....by the time I reached my ball the kids had run back to the parent sat on the side of the 6th fairway, and my ball was nowhere to be seen...one of those moments a good use of Spanish would have been perfect as my disgusted look and stare had no impact!

It does annoy me when people say Condado is a Five Start resort! Stars are awarded for service and facilities.

If resorts were given stars I would say LaManga Club could be classed as 5 Star, Mar Menor and La torre 4 Star, Camposol 3 Stars and Condado would struggle to get 2 stars, especially now the Gym, Sports Zone and Snack bar are derelict.

If a burger Van accidentally wondered into Condado (wouldnt be hard with the security) it would double our facilities!.....lol

well whats to be done ,anyone know ? what about the presidents can they do anything or want to do anything . 

why were polaris allowed to give it to the bank ? not as if that cleared a lot of debt

maybe the banks need to realise or be informed no facilties = NO RESORT and owners walking away

it may be time to cut the loss for me ,and just realise it was one big mistake (fcuking nightmare) its not just the sports but everything  

This "dream" of ours has certainly turned into a nightmare,  does anyone know how easy it is to just simple walk away from it all.  My hubby has already said he wants nothing more to do with the apartment,  so I am  trying to hold it together just..  To make matteres worse only completed 3 months ago, only wish I could have been brave enough then and walked away.  It seems everytime I read these posts something negative happens I think for me the loss of the sport facilities and snack bar along with vandalism proves that this will never be what we bought into.  Oh and along with kids on the golf course that was a cracker!

Sorry to hear you feel that way, I know that the polaris dream for La Isla kind of burst and it will probably never be as described in the original sales blurb, but at least you have a completed apartment and if you can hang in there for the long haul things might improve in the future.

If you really want to walk away, I'll take it off your hands.

I think it's fair to say Polaris have lost interest in Condado.

The sooner they go bust the better in my opinnion.

If I could do it all agian I would have bought on a different resort.

I am just hoping for a tidy golf course and a clubhouse to boot.

As for the rest no chance if Polaris have sold the land.

Thanks Phil I liked your positive attitude.  I agree we do have a completed apartment and empty one at that!  May bring myself to come over one day............

You really should come over, I know it will be tricky if your apartment is unfurnished, but even with the sparse facilities on site there is still prenty to do in the surrounding area.  La Isla is officially joining the community this month, so you will soon have to pay community fees ( backdated from time of completion ), so you will be paying monthly for an apartment you haven't used yet!

Polaris have hit hard times, as has every other developer in europe, but they are still in business which is a lot better than some ( although many here would say that's a bad thing ).  Hopefully as the world economy comes out of recession things will start to improve.

This response is really intended for Deb and others who have come into CDA lately and feel from reading some of the contributions on this forum that the world is at an end. I would urge you to retain your perspective and not get too carried away with negativity that can pervade forums like this. They can be a´whingers charter´if not careful and that then infects others who are in seemingly vulnerable positions. The reality however is somewhat different.

You have made what is probably one of the biggest investments of your life, so whatever you do, you must not walk away or go onto neglect your purchase as things will never get better for you or the community.

In times of economic decline like this, we have done well to get to where we are. I met with some people from Camposol yesterday and some of the tales they speak of in terms of developers and maintenance make me feel quite relieved about CDA.

I walked down to the Manzano bar the other day - I am out here at the moment - and I was disgusted with what I saw and the Presidents should now be making moves to get this sorted out and put straight. Polaris are at fault having stripped anything of value out and left the place in a right mess. They should be banned from making such raids in future. The AGM should seek to sort this out. (I won´t be here for it unfortunately.)

The Island does look great and if I had bought on there I would be pleased with my purchase but a little worried about what will be built eventually on the land previously reserved for the other two golf courses and Oasis. This will take many years to resolve because the financial recovery is not going to kick in for at least three years here in my view.

My advice would be to set up your new home, enjoy the facilities that we do have and get some sun on your back. Ignore some of the rubbish that you do see on this and other forums. It is like anything else, we Brits do like to focus on the negativity when really we should focus on how to problem solve. I have a times nearly been sucked into that negative spiral effect myself especially when I thought Polaris were going bust at Christmas time. However, things are a lot better than that out here and rather than be destabilised by some contributors on this thread I would stop using the forum first and get on with establishing your home here.

If you want to PM me I am more than happy to help with your difficulties direct  - but avoid those distructive types that infiltrate threads like this.

Although my views contradict those of Faulky444, I agree with most of what he says. I think this forum polarises opinion, there are many people who are extremely positive, happy with their apartment and dont wish to hear the negative coments. Then there are those who are very negative about the resort and regreat their purchase. I fall into the second category.

There tends to be too much squabbling, between the two factions, we should all respect each other opinions!

For me finding this forum was a good thing, I find it comforting to know that I am not alone, that there are plenty of other people who are in the same situation, who are disapointed with the resort and are considering their options. Its a little like a support group for victims of Polaris....lol

Like Faulky said, you really need to spend some time on Condado and make your own mind up, you never know you may even like the place, many seem to, if not you could always take ptan up on his kind offer?

Yes it's not quite what we expected but you know what - the sun's still shining, we have our fully furnished bolt hole in the sun, we have security, the pool outside the front door, the grass is mowed and well kept, the bins are emptied, we have bar, restaurant and supermarket, we have a FANTASTIC golf course  and the beach 20 minutes down the road

SOME PEOPLE NEED TO WAKE UP - WE ARE STILL GOING THEROUGH THE WORST ECONOMIC DEPRESSION SINCE THE 30's - and although our resort is not finaished as per original plans it is still intact and we are in a heck of a better position that some poor souls left sitting in developments with open sewerage and rubble for roads, or even worse paid deposits and got zilch because the developer is bankrupt -

as for rating Camposol better than Condado what a joke that is - Camposol is fine if you want a couple of hours watching the footy, a pint, an indian or fish & chips - but then you come back to a relative oasis that is Condado ..............................(parts of Camposol is falling down through subsidence - again some poor souls going to be left with a property they can never sell or will have to spend fortunes to fix).

I'm sure the President's will take note of the comments re. the minor vandalism - but you know what - BLAME THE PARENTS - as for kids on the golf course - well kids will be kids but a good 'gulder' at them and clip round the ear would soon sort that out !

Thanks for making your comments and I completely agree with you (although I am not sure Polaris have stripped the facilities - it may well be the bailiffs...but anyway...)

I made two posts yesterday, a positive one about the new management company and the work being done on the maintenance of the site/gardens, and this post which was more a question about what is happening but obviously highlighting a negative aspect of CdA currently.  Interestingly the positive note has had half as many viewings as this one (440 to 230), and absolutely no responses :)

I should say to echo your comments, we are absolutely delighted with our apartments, the location and surrounding area.  The re-opening of the sports facilities would re-instate a bit of status quo.......the plight of Polaris World is not changing our view of our dream and we all need to take a long term view of how the site will develop with or without Polaris.  The petty vandalism I highlight is not major and if re-opened soon it can be quickly rectified, I am more concerned that the attempts to get into the courts will increase the longer they stay locked and as more people are on site in season.  It would be cheaper for us all in the long run if someone opens up the courts...locksmith anyone??

I THINK THIS COULD BE A GOOD PLACE ,BUT STANDARDS ARE NOT GETING BETTER BUT ON THE DECLINE SO WHATS TO BE DONE ? DO WE NEED TO TAKE LEGAL ADVICE ? A COUPLE OFF 1000E EACH WILL NOT MATTER NOW   WE ALL HAVE A LOT OF MONEY IN THIS PLACE  ANYWAY.

Jeb, I rated camposol higher than Condado because they have far more facilities, a Spa, A hotel, A club House, a Golf Course, Shops, Banks, Restaurants, Bars, Coffee Shops, Supermarket, Estates Aganets Barbers, Etc Etc. Stars are awarded for facilities. There is no way Condado would get 3 stars, I think Camposol may have a chance.
