do you honesty think that children are not going to play sports on the grass and pool areas
maybe that children of all nationalities and ages will get on and all play together on the 3 football pitches, bit like the world cup
just hope they dont start useing the golf course for javalin etc
as for the clover maybe we could have a sports quiz and call it
a question of sport facilities This message was last edited by tomgeorge on 28/05/2010.

I am sure that the Sports Zone will be mentioned / raised at the AGM. it is a Hot topic!
At this moment in time the Sport Zone is Officially Closed and owned by the consortium of Banks.
The Best solution at the moment will be to arrange an EGM as soon as possible after the AGM to propose that the Community take over the sports zone complete, this will result in an increase in the budget and obviously our community charges. This will require a study of viability etc, so wont happen overnight.
We can not vote at the AGM on this proposal as we can only vote on Items on the Agenda, but if owners at an EGM vote to lease the sports zone for say five years from the Bank, and the costs are manageable then this would probably be the best and quickest way forward.
I doubt if the bank will just open it up? as there will be an insurance issue immediately if someone is injured and the Bank would be liable, at the moment anyone injured would be deemed a tresspasser and have no claim.

It is disappointing that the Sports Zone isnt open and that people are having to get in via the fences but as Rob has commented that the state of the fences etc isnt quite as being reported on here and its probably less an issue than it seems. Its true that in the summer months this area was well used last year and I expect that'll continue albeit by nipping under the fences- people will probably glad to save a bob or two.
I think we can all recognise when someone who feels they have a grievious disappointment as a result of buying on on CdA is trying to unsettle other owners by suggesting scenario's that could cause concern- but whilst the sports zone and other issues are 'causes for concern' I dont think many people are taking the bait. Life's a gamble, buying off plan is and always was a gamble, buying just prior or during a financial crisis that sweeps the world- gamble! Spain is littered with people who bought off plan and have been disappointed. Suggesting that the three footy pitches are insufficient space doesnt make sense, I'm sure kids will head over there and make the most of them.
All that said, I hope the Community can eventually take over the sports zone and re open Manzono's- even if the bar can only open for a set periods in the day or is seasonal. Not enough residents/visitors to sustain The Clover, a Clubhouse and Manzano's open full time yet, but in time.....

It was, according to the original info, supposed to be OUR sports area and not for profit by an independent operator. It felt like a sneaky move in the first place when they took it from us and seems equally ludicrous that they feel justified in locking us out now. PS - I am in a grumpy mood tonight and am off to find some more threads to kick off on!!!!!!!!!!!!! Arlene xx

Hi Arlene,
Unfortunately no one foresaw tbe global crisis which lead to the fall in fortunes for Polaris.
As Mick has said, the banks now own the sports area and have no plans to reopen it. As Mick and I discussed in a meeting yesterday, one possible solution would be for the communty to take it on, but this would need to be looked at the depth and would require a vote of owners. I'm sure this will be discussed at the AGM tomorrow.
Phil

Quiet man what as global recession got to do with sport area shut ?(don't bother me with one of you long winded stories thanks all the same)
I am not trying to unsettle anyone ,i have thee boys who want to use these facilities.
may be your in-laws who are in the know can have a word, one more thing i don't think you use the sports area so don't be negative to someone who would like to see it open , i don't play golf but i am happy the golf course was opened and hope they build a club house may be one day a nice big bingo hall where the Bessie's can go .and by the way how do you play tennis on a football pitch ? parents don't want to see there children climbing under a fence to save a couple of bob (not very 5 star) also the 5 a side football and basket court was free last year this area was used a lot by smaller children playing with there parents so football pitches would not be suitable do you think

tomgeorge: As ptan says the global recession has led to the present situation with Polaris and as they owned the sport zone its one of the facilities they have had to pass over to the Banks.
Whilst its not very 5*, I agree, to have to enter the sports facilities via a hole in the fence it at least means they can be used.
I did use the sports zone tennis courts/squash courts last year- several times. I have raised the issue of the sports zone myself.
My nephews used the basketball regularly. I expect they'll take a ball up to the footy pitches for a kick about instead.
Hopefully after the AGM the community may have a plan for the area otherwise we just have to sit it out. They are the only avaiable solutions no matter how disappointing it is to have the area closed.
It is no longer necessary for me to speak to my ex inlaws so sadly I can't comment on whether they still have contact with one of Polaris Directors.

it is also a matter of safety if a child gets injured climbing into or out , could be glass or anything on play area surface
don't forget these areas are not being maintained so maybe our new security should take a look but as we say nothing to do with our community its the bank its rescission, it wont be a matter of who we claim against it will be someone child so i don't think sitting it out is a option This message was last edited by tomgeorge on 29/05/2010.

Actually however much fun I'm having with this banter you make a valid point. The new security will probably stop the use of the courts and also restrict inappropriate games in the Jardin grassy area's. If they are better than the present secutiry anyway and they are supposed to be, time will tell- so all this is just academic.
I think it's pointed out earlier in the thread that any injury caused using the courts whilst they are locked is not the resposibility of the community or the Banks- but as you say would still be someone's child.
We just have to wait and see what happens.
