I was asked to get information on a communal TV system for our building at our initial Community Meeting. If you have not seen the minutes, please email Paco for a copy of them as I don't want to post personal information on this site where it can be viewed by everyone.
This information is for the next Community Meeting (whenever it will be). Here is what I have obtained from the company who installed my wireless computer aerial. The system is completely free once initial costs have been paid, though if SKY subscription option is chosen by an owner of a flat, I presume that will have a monthly sub. charge. Although initial charges are high, once you take account of the cost of 20-30 euros a month to TELEAST, it works out quite cheap in comparison. Also as Teleast is a re-broadcast system, we don't know how long this will last if BBC and other British broadcasters decide to pursue their copyright position.
>
> The following system can be with either a 1.9m or 2,4m dish, will
> provide 12 satellite points at each distribution box (There are 4
> distribution boxes on top of your flats if I remember correctly) i.e. a
> total of 48 connections. The system can be expanded without loss of
> signal. (beware some suppliers supply a multi output system of say 16
> outputs but end up splitting the initial signals when more connections
> are required with subsequent signal loss and possible breakup of
> picture.
Also I have designed the system to hopefully take account of
> long cable runs to the furthest clients from the satellite dish. The
> dish would be mounted on the flat roof in a concrete base. Please note I
> will not stand any insurance claim should the dish be blown away and
> subsequentlty cause damage or injure someone, please check the apartment
> block insurance policy for cover of such incidents. ( having said that I
> have never had a dish on a concrete base move yet but there is always a
> first time I suppose.)
>
> The price for the initial installation of the dish and distribution
> boxes would be 2,000 euros with a 1,9m dish and 2400 euros with a 2.4m
> dish.
>
> The price to run cables from the system to an apartment would be :-
>
> 100 euros for each cable.
>
> If the client requires a receiver (some clients supply their own) these
> can be supplied as follows :-
>
> Free To Air 85 euros
> Official BBC/ITV Freesat 110 Euros
> Official Sky TV Receiver 220 Euros
>
> Free to air receiver :- Will receive all free channels including BBC,
> ITV, Channel 4 and 5 etc but requires periodic re-tuning and does not
> have a 7 day guide or BBC red button facilities.
>
> Official BBC/ITV Freesat Receiver :- receives free channels including
> BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 etc, is fully automatic, i.e. tunes itself and
> adds any new channels, has a 7 day guide and has BBC interactive text
> via the red button.
>
> Official Sky receiver :- Receives free channels, has 7 day guide and red
> button facilities but may also be used for a Sky TV subscription.
>
> As far as Spanish TV is concerned there are no Spanish channels
> available on the satellite from which the UK signals are received, these
> signals can of course be received terrestrially by a standard antenna.
>
> I hope the above is of interest.
