Yes I agree I will wait until they build a great looking inter continental hotel and use their pool and spa or is that just wishful thinking :)

Hi

Based on your costing suggested by Tony and if this was correct, being 37,000 Euros in the first year, this would equate to just over 10 Euros per apartment and the ongoing cost would be 2 Euros per apartment per year.

If the alternative is to build a central indoor complex for all to use I would think this would cost in the region of 500,000 (just a guess) then you would have the ongoing cost of staffing and maintaining and then presumably a entrance or membership fee.

The other alternative suggested was to use the pool in the Intercontinental Hotel when built (goodness knows when or if that may be) they will probably charge us 15 or 20 Euros per visit.

I know which option makes sense to me.

Phil

I think if people are serious about this they need to approach their presidents and get it costed.

Then owners can be asked to give their views to their garden president based on an actual costing.

I too have had many thoughts on the heating of pools. It does seem to be a bit of contentious issue.

I understand both sides of the arguements as all are valid; however I do feel that (along with others) at least one heated pool would be good.

My opinion is that we should look into having one pool costed (no comitment at this point) (as a trial) then see how many would like it, via the presidents.

If the pricing of appx 2000 euro to install is near correct, I wouldn't mind paying for the pool near me to have it fitted. (so long as everyone agreed) Even if it just extended the use 2 months before and 2 months after, this would cover the times when it is still warm enough to go swimming (like when you say use the sea) but the pools seem to be like ice.

I will be seeing our president this weekend so will be putting this forward to him for his views. (sorry all folks but the nearest pool for me is on La Isla).

If the previous person could let me know what information they require to cost the job I will try to obtain it for them. I am sure it would be something on the lines of the volume of the water and temperature required and power available. Thinking about it, the La isla units have solar panels on the roof anyway perhaps these could be used as I do not see where the hot water goes at the moment?

Figures I had quoted came from earlier post by "Alhama Gardener".

My advice is to ask Milenium (via appropriate presidents) to get a costing from whoever maintains all the pools at CDA.  I would expect any company in the business of pool maintenance should have some idea of dealing with heated pools.

I'd like the pools to be heated.

But, I dont want particular gardens to have a heated pool rather than others as I think it gives those gardens a better chance of attracting rentals in the off season. I also dont wanted some gardens to end up with gangs of kids in when others will be an oasis of serenity because the parents have sent them off the play in the pool. Few peopleseem to observe the rulesof being with their children at the pools already and I dont see that improving if we have to or three heated pools scattered around the resort.

I'm sorry I didnt mean my previous badly spelt (!) post to halt this thread- think valuable comments have been made ( my problem is that I cant access the internet regularly) I do think heated pools are the way forward but I also think this has to be thought through properly.

It's all very well some owner from Jardin 13 suggesting Jardin 7 or 5 should have a heated pool because thats central but the reality is thats its a chilly trot back to Jardin 13 and the owners in Jardin 7 or 5 might not want the world and his wife or unruly kids tipping up in their Jardin regularly plus it would give the 'whatever' Jardins an unfair advantage. Before anyone says it wont be a problem I know Jardin 8 had a issue with a group of lads throwing towels etc into that pool when they'd been left whilst some group or other went off for a bit of lunch and security have had to constantly tell people across the resort  not to use lilo's,balls and had to remove people from pools late at night- even though there are signs- and I do think parents will happily send groups of kids off to use the 'communal' pools at half terms and Christmas.

So, for what its worth I think it's all or nothing or at least alternate Jardin's pools and I hope there's a vote on it because I think many owners will think there's more important things to spend money on. I note that this thread has run for awhile and not one Prsident had entered a post- I think that says a lot.  Clubhouse and other things occupy their thoughts and the funds dont exist for this option..

I agree with Tony, there are more important issues than the pools.

For the pools to be heated the community would need to raise the money by increasing the community fees.  If I have to pay more each month I'd rather it be to reopen the sports area and bar, which I and many other would use more than the pools ( which I don't use at all )   Either way it would need an owners vote, so we would all have our say then.

Hi

I think we have some good constructive comments being made on this topic, what we need is realistic costing and further debate so we can decide if we would like this to be turned into a proposal at AGM.

Just one comment I would like to make, we should not confuse things like bars, shops, gym and tennis courts which are private commercial concerns and nothing to do with our community charges. These will increase naturally as occupation of the resort increases.

Pools are maintained from our community fees and any enhancement to them would have to be paid by increase in community fees, however I think this increase would be minimal and in my opinion well worth it.

Seems like a well organised survey of all those residents on the books of the current maintenance company would be useful to sort this out. Presidents - can this be arranged by the company itself?

The reality is that depending on how tough you are, most people could only use the pools for a max of 5 months a year and more like four for many. That is May through to September. May can be chilly depending on how cold the winter has been and Sept/Oct again on how warm the summer has been.

That's a real shame as in December we can have really sunny days and the pools look so inviting - but try putting a foot in!!

I for one would have liked the recent money saving on fees to have been re directed at this very issue.

I agree that views of owners should be canvassed.

But I think it is essential that a quote for the work is obtained along with estimated running/maintenace costs before views are asked for.  Would be good to obtain info for heating for the year (minus June-August) or just for a couple of months either side of summer, say March-April and Sep-Oct.

As I mentioned previously I'm sure Millenium could ask for quote if an appropriate request came from the presidents.

I agree that voting when it comes about is the way forward and it would be good to use the pools all year around.

However Community Charges are involved PGM as to reopen the sports zone  again requires the community to pay towards it. The Banks do not intend to get/advertise for a company to do this.  Most recent info on this was posted by ptan on another thread and related to the fact that the Presidents had hoped to secure the Banks support for this to happen by the 1st Aug but sadly when the Banks discovered there had been a bit of damage to this area they have held back and further negotiations are to occur. But, Community Charges will be used to fund the re opening of the sports zone asit would be Community run and therefore I think adding the pools to our level of debt is likely a step too far.
