Hi All,
I am aware that non-resident spanish property owners need to submit an annual tax return to the spanish authorities. I have heard stories of solicitiors charging fees that are more than the tax amount itself. I was just browsing the La Torre Owners Website (another mine of useful information) and come across this advertised service. Seems to indicate that a simple tax return can be done for £20 (plus another £15 if you ask them to pay it rather than via the bank). Has anybody used them and would they recommend?
If I hadn't found this is was something I was thinking about discussing with our residents association (when it gets going). Must be hundreds of us in the same boat and I reckon we could strike a deal with some local accountants to do a bulk job at reduced cost??
Back over end of September which will be our first opportunity to stay in our new apartment now electricity is on and we have kitted out the basics.

Hi Javabean45
I used "spanishtaxforms.co.uk" last year and I shall be using them, this year too. I would recomend 100%. John arranged all the paperwork for me and I paid the extra £15 and they paid it all for me too. They are very helpful.

We are on phase 1 & are due to pay tax this year so probably look at using spanishtaxforms. We have had an email from ABC solicitors who have all our paperwork & are offering to do our tax forms for 50 euros plus vat per person, so obviously abit pricier.
However, one thing ABC did mention was that they would check to see if our council tax was up to date. We haven't had any notification & also nothing has come out of our spanish bank a/c. Has anybody on phase 1 had a council tax bill yet,or even had the payment taken out of their a/c??

Hi there,
I spoke to my solicitors on Thursday and they inform me that Council Tax is being calculated this month and a reminder is due to be posted to everyone by the end of September (for Torre Pacheco and Roldan areas - i.e. applies to Terrazas de la Torre and La Torre). This will be posted directly to each address.
I'll let you know if I find out any more details... but keep an eye out on the post!

Hi all,
thanks for all the responses here. Very useful. Sounds like Phase 1 Terrazas hasn't been asked to pay Council Tax to-date, but may be included this year? I'm assuming that Phase 2 hasn't been fully handed over yet and won't be in scope. Not sure how we receive mail anyway as post boxes aren't operational yet and we're not over frequently enough to be able to collect mail from Roldan PO as I assume they don't hold it indefinitely.

Hi Dave,
I'm on phase 1 and have access to an operational mail box, however, I'm not sure if this is the case on Phase 2. Interestingly though I haven't actually received any external post - so maybe the post is still being sent to Roldan. I've been to the pst office a few times in Roldan and they don't hold onto the post for long (I think it's about a month). It might be worth seeing if your post can be sent to your respective Solicitor's address (at least they'll be able to hold on to it for you).
Slightly digressing....
... I've just got back from Spain and the development is looking awesome. It's been 38 - 40 degree's over the last few weeks and the builders are still working (which is rare in Spain, understandably). The golf course is looking fantastic - it looks so different to many other golf courses in the region, therefore has a really big USP.
Also, something else that I found out (which is great news for any Polaris World resort). Polaris World has been chosen to hold the 2010 Spanish Pro Golf Championship for the second consecutive year running. Previously held at The El Valle Golf Resort in December 2009 which forms part of the prestigious Nicklaus Golf Trail, and is based in the Murcia Region, of Spain.

Great news
We are also in phase 1 and have also been out a few times recently and are really happy to see the excellent progress on the resort. I am hoping the course will be opened as promised in October.
We have not received our tax bill or council tax bill but i intend speaking to my solicitor when we are over in October to make arrangements to pay anything we owe. I got my key for the post box from the security gate last time i was over but it was only full of junk mail. Does anyone know what happens to the mail after the post office have held it for whatever peroid, as i have been waiting for something important which has never arrived?
Best wishes
Kim

Hey Kim,
I know; it's all very exciting at the moment! I'm also hoping that the golf course will be complete in October... It does look absolutely awesome!
You should receive the council tax bill in the post, by the end of September - although your solicitor will be able to help you on the income tax calculations.
With regards to the post that has been sitting at the Post Office in Roldan - I believe if this hasn't been collected after a month or so, it will be mailed back to the receiver.
I have only received 'junk' mail in my private post box at Terrazas. It might be worth popping into the Post Office (in Roldan) to check that there isn't anything waiting for you. The Post Office is next to the Police Station in Roldan.
Well... I'm back at Christmas now, and cannot wait!
Thanks,
Mark

Hi there
We picked key up for our mailbox in Terrazas & besides all the junk mail we actually had 3 waterbills! However that was in June & when we checked in August there was no post. We are going back next month so will check our post box/post office in Roldan for the council tax bill. I assume we can arrange to pay it with our bank?
I agree that the resort is looking good. Looking forward to the golf course opening & hopefully the town centre & old manor house.

Hi
Anneli,
Absolutely - you should be able to ask your bank to set up a direct debit to pay the council tax, or just do a bank transfer.
That's good news that the post box's are being used :-). Unfortunately I've only been receiving junk mail.
Yep - looking forward to playing golf, and drinking a cold beer in the Hacienda!
