Hi again My solicitor who has POA has advised me that they may not be able to apply for my NIE on my behalf due to changes in regulations recently that mean it has to be done personally by the applicant. Has anyone had this problem? It will cause me problems as I'm heading over for a week and wanted solicitor to complete promptly so I could get furnishing.... if I need to do this do I receive the number immediately? Thanks Jenna

Hi Jenna,
We had to personally go and get our NIE numbers. A rep from Polairs World took us to Murcia and did the paperwork on our behalf and we just had to go in show our ID and we had our numbers given to us there and then.
Maybe speak to customer service at Polaris regarding this.
Regards
Theresa

Hi Jenna,
Our solicitor did our NIE for us we just had to forward our passport picture & numbers.
He went to Cartegna to do ours.
He also did the signing at the Notary in Los Alcazares & got our Keys.
In fact all we had to do was our snagging which we chose to do ourselves.
Regards Clieve

You should be able to get your NIE at your local Spanish consulate ( I did )
My son got his in December, then we were told it could be done via POA, but as he was coming out we did it our selves. Went to the registration office in Murcia one day, picked up the NIA the following day.

Hi Jenna,
we are currently in the process of purchasing our apartment and our solicitor has POA. We had to send copies of our passport, front page and photograph page and along with the POA have these signed by a notary in the UK. Once this was done we had to send to the Foreign Office (UK) and have the Hague Apostille stamped. All this was carried out within a week. My Spanish solicitor has just advised that she should have our NIE numbers within a few days.
Regards
Michael

Hi Michael
I have went through the same process of having the documents notortized and apostilled. My solicitor has just advised this week that some new regulations mean that clients must apply in person for the NIE. If this is the case I have wasted alot of money have the documents done at home and the cost of the POA as I will need to travel prior to completion to get the NIE myself? It also causes me difficulties as I need a bank account open as well!
Can you let me know how your solicitor gets on and I can advise mine then? You can PM me if you prefer.
Thanks Jenna
