I have recently returned to the UK after spending a week on the Tierra De Sol development. Here are a few pieces of information that will be of interest to anyone who has bought here.
1. DON'T buy anything through your estate agent. Everything, especially furniture packs, grills and air conditioning units, can be bought much cheaper and of much higher quality in Calasparra.
2. I met a great guy called Steve Thompson, who has lived on the development for some time, knows everyone and has lots of great advice and contacts. He offers a range of services at very competitive rates and was very helpful to us during our stay. He runs a fantastic website packed with advice, pictures and useful information.
3. It is 2.7 kilometres from the development to the bull ring which we found an ideal place to park, just two minutes from the centre of Calasparra.
4. Grills. You may already know this - we didn't. Every villa includes a grill on the front. REMEMBER don't get your grills through your estate agent.
5. Several builders and landscape gardeners are operating on the development. The one company that constantly kept cropping up as doing excellent work, on time and for great prices was Image, which is run by a friendly husband and wife from Manchester called Mark and Bev . Check another great website on http://www.imagesl.com/
6. All the villas due to be completed at the end of April are on time, in fact the builder told me they could be early.
7. There's a good market in Calasparra every Friday.
8. I am told that there will be no community charge for the villas and that the Spanish equivalent of our 'council' will be taking care of the lights and roads.
9. All the shops have been leased. I was told by several people that a supermarket and bar are scheduled to open this summer.
10. There are no telephone lines to the properties. Some people use something called radio phones which also allow access to the Internet. Apparently most people just use mobiles.
11. All the villas come with a TV aerial installed - sadly you can only watch Spanish TV.
12. Many people have SKY TV. I understand one large dish, costing around 900 euros, can be shared among four villas and various packages are then available much cheaper than the UK.
13. There is a great swimming pool in Calasparra, opposite the bull ring. There are lots of amenities - cost 60 cents.
14. The development is incredibly friendly. There's a great community spirit and we were invited in to five or six properties and out for a meal several times. I spent Saturday watching the rugby union match in the apartment of a couple we met in the afternoon. We were drinking cans of beer that tasted great and cost 18p at a local supermarket.
14. Finally, the best news of all. The place is buzzing with talk of a new golf course. We were told about this by our rep but until now all we could find out were rumours. I understand the course is being planned near the railway station and that this has already been given permission for water access, which is a really big deal in Spain. There are local elections in May, after which the Mayor is expected to give planning permission for the course and 4,000 new houses. The course could be open in less than four years and people in the know are predicting a big rise in property prices as a result.
I hope these comments are helpful. If you want to discuss any of them, please e-mail me.This message was last edited by letissier123 on 3/5/2007.This message was last edited by letissier123 on 3/5/2007.This message was last edited by letissier123 on 3/5/2007.
