Hi ,
Have just received a e-mail regarding a IBI Tax Bill, something that is news to us ! Has anyone else received the same, and if so have you paid from the UK?? We have not received anything in the post yet , and we were never given a mail box key for our apartment,so I am hoping it arrives in the UK. Have no idea as yet how much this will be, but my main concern is payment, which has to be done by 20/11.Would be grateful for any advise please.

There is a local and non resident tax to pay - you can do it youself or pay a lawyer to do it for you, we are over end Oct and going to try to do it ourselves. they are less than €250 in total I think.
Do pay because they will charge you if you don't i have heard locally.

Hi all,
IBI is the tax to be paid to the local town council. You need to go to the Council Office in Torre Pacheco and pay it. You'll need id (passport and somthing with your spanish address e.g. utility bill or purchase deeds). They can take payment on the spot via an ATM they have set up, or you can pay via your bank. Paid mine last month and was 212 Euros. We found them very helpful and had a guy who spoke very good english.
There is also a non-residents tax. This goes to the Spanish Tax Authority. I'm just in the process of trying to get this one sorted. The nearest tax offixes are in Cartagena and Murcia. You can try and sort it out yourself at the tax office, or get your solicitor to fill out the forms, but beware, the solicitors may charge more than the tax itself. We've used a company called Spanish Tax Forms to complete the forms for us (for 25 Pounds), but looks like I still need to go to the tax office to register us for tax purposes. We're not due back out till next year so looks like this will have to wait unless I can get it sorted via postal system.
Re post boxes. I have chased PW regularly, and the last reply said it was being arranged. I see that new boxes have arrived (outside the supermarket) but no sign of them being commissioned.

Meant to say, I've had no correspondance to my UK address from Spanish utility or Authorities, so I guess that they do not have this information. Apparently all mail goes to the Roldan Post Office. Official line is that it gets returned after 15 days (so not much use to us periodic visitors), but some existing residents have been and say there's quite a lot of old stuff held there.

Hi
We have used the solicitor already mentioned in the email from the community to deal with the non resident tax including registering our Nie numbers with the Tax Authorities and the cost for 4 was 317.08 euros.
They will pay this for us at the end of October and the deadline is 31 December 2011.
