Hi, I've been offered a good deal on purchasing a property at corvera golf via the bank. Having read with interest the latest threads here I'm wondering if it is a viable proposition.

Thanks in anticipation, Willas

There are better options than Corvera at the moment ..... the social housing issue is a very major one.

As someone who has lived at CG&CC for two years now I can assure anybody who is thinking of renting or buying here will not be disappointed , I think it is highly unlikly that a social housing project could ever be located here, as confirmed by the mayor, "there is no inferstructure to support large scale education or employment".

We are a relatively small resort on the edge of a small Spanish village in the countryside and anyone looking for that will be hard pressed to find a better location.  With the current economic situation as it is the price structure of rents and purchases being offered  it's hard to imagine that the commercial downside could be that great.

I can't deny there are financial problems but this is mainly due to the fact that alot of people who initially signed to purchase have decided not to go ahead (some with good reasons and others without) which has the knock on effect of leaving the burden on the rest of us, that said those of us who love our lives here are determind to make it work and beleive with good management and careful planning we will eventually win through.

It should be pointed out that most of those who chose not to proceed with their purchase at Corvera (many with very good reason - ie. that Calidona were not delivering what was promised) did so by forfeiting their sizeable deposits.  What happened to that money?  It should have gone a long way to paying the community charges for those properties now back on the market.  But dare one suggest that it may have disappeared along with Calidona when they "sold" the resort?

Admittedly a few were able to move their deposits to property on the sister development but only at Calidona's original off-plan rather than current market prices.

Other prospective buyers (those on phase 3) were, I believe, able to claim their deposits back because Calidona confirmed that these properties did not have licences and were not going to be built.

If Calidona had behaved honourably the money forfeited by "non-purchasers" should have gone a long way to keeping the resort going.

Hi Martin 1,

I have no desire to enter into a protracted debate with you as I was just offering my personal view of the situation as someone " on the ground " , and I do understand everyones disappointment at the eventual outcome but I would point out that there were NO WINNERS here not even our beloved Calidona ( lol ), as the deposits you refer to would hardly cover the cost of the land purchase not to mention the cost building the resort and the 1100 homes that were eventually built.

I am indeed very sorry for anybody who suffered financially not least of all myself,  if anybody has walked away from here with anything but a large debt I will be amazed, (Calidona included), but I would also remind you that a home is a home be it permanent   or holiday and you haven't lost anything until to sell the property only then will you be able to truly calculate your "loss" or your "gain".

The world is a very different place today than it was in 2005/6 when we first " bought into the dream "

Best Regards

Very well said ulmia its nice to hear someone who knows what they are talking about on this forum. The mayor of Corvera town had no knowledge of the social housing and was as suprised as the rest of us when the suggestion appeared in the media and as far as i am aware there is no social housing on Corvera contrary to the comment made below about it being a very major issue.
