The response for buddies has been amazing with lots of offers to help. We have had fireman, nurses and doctors offering their time whilst on holiday to provide the valuable service of CPR. Just a quick note that you don't need to have any medical training to be a CPR Buddy, just a willingness to remain on site for the duration of a shift with a telephone and the ability to race to an emergency by car or bike to help support the trained responder.
Thanks to all our volunteers who have given their time. We couldn't run CPR without volunteers.
Responders Needed
As the request for buddies was so successful I'm now asking for more volunteers to come forward to eventually train to be responders. A responder needs to spend at least 6 months of a year on Condado. At present we only have a maximum of 7 Responders available to cover the 24 hours, 7 days a week required. With the use of buddies this means that each responder is required to cover a 24 hour period, once a week. Allowing for work, holidays, a social life and unforeseen events it is obvious that this number is not enough. These people, who give up their time freely are under strain trying to cover CPR. In the long term this cannot continue – we simply need more volunteers!
CPR is a worthy cause, last Saturday night CPR was called out to a woman with a racing heart beat. Once CPR arrived she calmed down and her heart beat slowed to a safer rate whilst she waited for the ambulance. The lady panicked over the racing heart beat but once somebody arrived to help her the stress of her situation reduced and she was able to relax.
Consider being alone, without CPR and the ¾ hour wait for an ambulance. . . . ...
So we need more responders. If you know of anybody who may be suitable then talk to them and discuss it, persuade them to come and help – Maybe you could help. All volunteers will be fully trained and will have a team of people behind them to offer support.
So why not consider joining the CPR team as a buddy or a responder.
Remember CPR needs you!
