Hi Sal and Spike and welcome to Las Terrazas.
We bought our furniture from Muebles Hermanos Navarro. They do great value furniture packs which you can customise. Pictures of the furniture we bought can be seen here. Happy to share costs with you. They supplied, delivered and fitted everything including bathroom fixtures and fittings, lighting, wardrobe drawer units, curtains and TV while we were back in the UK. I have no complaints with the prices, quality of furniture or quality of workmanship. If you do contact them, ask for Mandy, she is very helpful.
Others have recommended DFS but I found them a bit pricey. If you want to do it all yourself there is always Ikea in Murcia.
For plates, kettles, pans, glasses, cutlery, brushes, mops, kettles etc I would recommend one of the big hypermarkets such as AlCampo at La Zenia or Carrefour at Epsacio Mediterraneo. Others have recomended Tien 21 in Roldan for electrical goods and lighting and I have bought a few bits and pieces there. There are also the supemarkets in Los Alcazares such as Euromarket for cheaper items.
For the finishing touches El Corte Ingles is worth a visit. Not cheap, but good quality and stylish. We got stuff there like the living room clock, bedside lamps, recycling bins etc. (not in the pictures above)
Happy shopping!
