Making a Will in Spain

Hello everyone,

This is my first message so please bear with me!

We are hoping to complete at the end of June on Manzana 4. We will be coming over in May to open a Spanish bank account. Does anyone recommend a local bank that can deal with deposits from the UK and Direct Debits for utilities? I would rather deal with a small branch but I do not speak Spanish

Can anyone suggest anything?

saw your post. i have a house from taray in balsicas. I opened an account with banco halifax espana - the local branch is in Los Alcazares. They are very helpful and speak perfect english. You can open your account on line with the halifax. If you have a halifax account in uk they will transfer money free of charges.

yes ,we did the same.you will need to take your driving licence and passport with you so they can take photo copies of them to varify who you are.you will also have to send 600 euro to the holding account they can do this by telegraphic transfer free of charge,the paperwork is then sent of to Madrid to be processed.hope this helps you out a bit.

We opened an account at the branch in Los Alcazares and it took about an hour. The branch was very busy for most of Friday. The exchange rate quoted was 1.23 euros to the £ and on the CNN news it reported the rate as 1.24. Most exchange shops were giving 1.20 euros to the £. If the commercial rate is applied all the time, this should be a great account. The cheque book and debit cards with the account should make it easier and cheaper to spend small and large amounts of money.

Lets hope the pound recovers soon against the euro.

Thanks for that. We will be over on 20th May and will definately open an account at Halifax in Los Alcazares.

I share your concern about the euro. We have our final stage payment at end of June. It has been pants so far!

The chap that filed in our forms gave us some mortgage advice. They have now reduced the mortgage amount to 60% of valuation, it use to be 70%. He was unsure how long this lower rate would be for. The mortgage rate would be about 5.5% which is probably what you would get in the uk. He phoned the surveying dept and was given a valuation of 204000 euros for the quads. I take it this is just a standard quote and could be higher for large plots.
