We are renovating a cortijo in Andalucia and need to protect our newly laid roof beams against insects. If anyone done this, and can pass on their hard-earned knowledge, we'd be really pleased to hear from you asap, please! Thanks, Andy and Donna

there is a good treatment and stain called xyalazyl /xylazor might have spelt this wrong but it is brilliant stuff .they have many different types but it is a fungicidal /insecticidal full wood treatment also it is gauranteed for up to 7 years [we have used this for many years in our buisness ] you should get this in most good ferreterias [ from 55 euros to 70 euros 5 litres ] but it goes a long way and is simple to apply .do yourselves a favour and dont go for cheaper option.
hope this helps

Many thanks, Steve.
This product sounds good, but would you be kind enough to check the spelling as I can't find it on Google!

That's great, thank you. We'll go into Allbox tomorrow and see if we can get some. "Fondo" seems to be the one, and the planks are all new. -Is it possible to put the product into a spray, or is it thick enough to apply easily with a brush? Donna (and Andy- who'll be doing most of it!)

it is very thin so would go with a spray easily but we have found that the brush or roller is better as you can prevent runs.it is very easy to use [make sure you stir the tin every now and then, as if you leave it for a while the stain can settle ] meaning as you get to the bottom of the tin it may look darker . hope this has been of help and good luck with you project
