UK Prescriptions
The Comments |
Hi All - I was wondering if anyone could give me some guidance?
My wife and I are now in a position to start looking for a property in Spain (coastal as I have Asthma and want to escape the UK winters).
Does anyone know what you have to do to continue getting your ongoing prescriptions from the UK if you move to Spain full time?
Cheers

You can't. If you are moving to Spain permanently you should transfer your healthcare to the Spanish system. The UK NHS is a residence based system, not a contributions based system. You can do this by getting an S1 form from the International Pensions Centre. This will transer your healthcare over, based on how many years you have paid NI in UK, and will depend on whether you are of retirement age or not. Under retirement age will give you up to 2 and half years cover, over retirement age will give you permanent cover. Only one person in the household needs to be over retirement age.
Edited to say
Once you are on the Spanish system, simply give the copy of your repeat prescription to the GP over here and they will issue you with a Spanish prescription for the same or equivalent medication.
