Non Residence tax Fiscal
The Comments |
Hello all, Hoping someone can help me by shedding some light on a nasty letter I received this morning!! I've received a letter from novagalicia banco re Declaration de Residencia Fiscal. We've had our apartment nr Alicante for almost 3 years but quite unaware what this tax is. We have been paying what we thought was all monies die or Suma etc! Unfortunately it does appet they are claiming we owe €3000 but being in Spainish nothing seems clear. We will be contacting our local Solicitor who originally acted on our behalf for further advice. We have no Spanish mortgage on our property, and a friend of mine who also has a place suggested maybe because of this our fees may be cost more?? Any advice will be greatly appreciated, Many Thanks Mike

Without knowing what the letter says, it is difficult to suggest what it actually about
It possibly relates to the tax which people who own a property in Spain, but who are not tax resident, are obliged to pay each year. It is based the catastral value and amounts roughly to 0.25% of that value

On the face of it you have nothing to worry about. All banks are required to get their NON resident account holders to sign a declaration every two years. If you Google 'Declaration de Residencia Fiscal' you will find loads of information.
