I am thinking about buying a little rib boat with an outboard.
does anyone know its its possible to just buy a boat and get out into the water with a small fishing net to catch some fish?
do i need a licence or to register the boat or anything boring like that?

Hi Mungry
you will need a fishing license for either fresh water or salt water fishing that is very cheap and is renewed yearly. I have a fresh water license. Depending on how large the boat is and the motor( diesel or electric) you will also have to register it as well as having small sports boat license for moving your boat in the marina. I don't know all the ins and outs but yes there is some boring stuff to do!! As far as a fishing net is concerned, I have no idea but I would assume there would be restictions. All my friends who go fishing on a regular basis use rods as I do.

thanks for that
i wil get a licence as they seem cheap and make sure the boat i am buying is small enough to not need permits if thats the case.
but it will be a tiny cheap one anyway so i assume it will be ok

Any boat or jet-ski needs a licence/permit/official registration, & the user also needs to have done the RYC or Spanish equivalent course & have gained the qualification to operate the vessel. The licence for fishing from a boat , with a rod, is different from the licence for fishing from the beach. Fishing with a net might well be regarded as operating a business.

There are different licenses for fresh water, fishing from beaches and rocks on the coast and fishing from a boat
have a look here
http://www.garysmithfishing.com/sli.html
and it's all rod fishing..............don't know about nets but I suspect you might have a problem there

I beach cast, and also pole fish here in Spain, the license process is simple and cheap!, go to the UGLY brown building in Malaga the one near the Larios Center and opposite telepizza ( sorry forgot the road name ) collect the application form from the reception desk for fishing, (ground floor) , then with the form go to a bank pay the fee under 6 Euros, return to reception with copies of passport, NIE, bank stamped form showing payment and application form and they issue the license on the spot...simples...I try to fish most weekends and maybe a morning or two in the week, and yes the police do come and check often so its best to get the license. Happy fishing!

a boat has to be registered and with a number, year, location, very similar to your car number-plate, it also has to be insured, as for a "driving licence" you will need one if the boat is over 4 mtrs, my fishing licence cost me 38 E's and is good for 4 yrs, it cover's shore as well as boat fishing, as for the use of net's, a completely different ball game, you would have to be regestered and licenced as a commercial fisherman, and the reg num. reflect's this, whatever you do don't risk using a net, if caught everything will be confiscated, and you could end up with a hefty fine of even a sentance, these law's are very strict, as for applying for all this stuff it is as you might know full of the usual spanish "red-tape", you will need alot of patience.
