Renewing passport
The Comments |
I understand that, from May 13th, passports will no longer be renewed via the consul in Madrid, but through an office in Belfast. May we expect that the huge price paid for renewing it before will be replaced by one that is the same as renewing it in the UK, except for the postage, of course?

The good news (according the Euro Weekly News) is that the helpline for the new office, will be a normally charged call (so free using VOIP) and not a premium rate one, as at present.

There is now no reason for extortionate charges for passport renewal. Let's see what excused are made as to why they won't be reduced!

An article I read said it was currently a special office dealing with overseas requests hence the higher charges which are, IMHO, a ripoff. However, it also said they were combining offices and hope to bring the costs more in line with renewing from UK sometime next year. Don't hold your breath, though.
