Hi Members is there anyone that has had the following problem with their Sip Card. We have both ,my wife and i been at the same Doctors surgery since 2006. Last week we both changed to the same doctor, On Tuesday the day of the change ,there was no problem with the SIP..my wife obtained her medication as usual, no payment required as she is a pensionista. On Wednesday she had to return to the Farmacia to collect some more medication, by now the Sip classed her as a person who had to pay in full for any medication,We returned to the Health Centre where they could not explain what had happened to the Sip card and advised us to make an appointment at the Seguridad Social in Torrevieja. Has any member had this problem if so i would be grateful as to why this happens and did they resolve it at the social Security My sip card that went through the same procedure regards change of doctor last Tuesday was unaffected and works fine,. I will updaet this Thread when we have been there next Thursday

I do know that quite a few medications, cough syrup etc, have been removed from the list of prescribable medication. Doctors will still give a prescription but the full cost has to be paid. It should say on the prescription what the price will be.

guess it is another clampdown go to social and make sure your S1 (or other paperwork) is up to date
is your wife's SIP card a beneficiary of you (this is shown on the number on the SIP card ending with "B")
I knwo of others have had similar problems and when checked most OK but some who are not entiltled have had the SIP card blocked

Hi .To update the problem, Thank you Tadd1966, you are correct . In March 2014 i received a form s1 from the Uk, kept it ,but should have taken it to the Social Security office in Torrevieja. My wife changed her doctor a few weeks ago and this triggered the fact that we had not took the form S1 in. As you said Tadd1966 to do with my wife originally being a Benificary not iin her own right, We went to the Social Sguridad in Torrevieja after booking an appointment first, they filled in the info from the S1 in a few minutes and it was done we returned th our health centre in Guardamar and got a new sip card. same number and had no problem with Farmacia and medication, Advice to anyone when you get an S1 go right away to Social, save problems later.

Not an important point, but to reassure those who do not have a ‘B’ anywhere on their card.
My wife (well under retirement age and never even been to UK) has ‘free cover’ paid for by DWP, as my dependant.
There is no ‘B’ on her card nor on mine. Each has our respective NIE and our individual health number (apart from the actual numbers being different) the cards are the same.

Your wife would appear to have her own card via whatever means
Beneficiaries are normally noted with a B
The card maybe checked at some point and even questioned so as elraso says keep your S1 form up to date just to be on safe side

Just checked. I have an E 121, dated Dec 2006, in my name, which shows as for ‘registation pensioners or members of their family’. The covering letter refers to my wife as a dependant not beneficiary, maybe that is the clue to why no 'B'
As I said she has never even been to UK and has never worked, or paid in, in Spain. She was issued with her Spanish medical card after she was issued with her Residencia (i.e. as a non EU citizen so not to be confused with EU Registration).
Where did you get the info about the ‘B’ so that I can check if there is a potential problem ?
Thanks John
This is her card

This was the info I was given in Torrevieja and by my solicitor
Only guessing as your wife has a residencia and a non EU citizen it may be different or different where you live
Who knows but if it isn't broken no need to fix it and you have the S1 as a back up if you encounter any problems
Goes to show many things differ for different circumstances and even regions etc
Nothing is ever black and white for all

Thanks Tadd, But even when I die she will still get free cover in Spain under Reg:-
Residents prior to 16th April 2012 – If you are an EU citizen (see *) who obtained your residency before the 16th April 2012 you are entitled to a SIP card. You need a certificate from the Social Security in the UK stating that you are not eligible to receive health care there. Once you have that, take it along with your passport and NIE to the Health Centre to obtain your SIP.
* PS Although it shows 'EU citizen' I have a friend, a USA national, who gets free cover under those Regs.in Andalucia.

No problem
We all seem to have friends that show not everyone is the same and circumstances differ for many so always best to check as elraso did

Why did you get the S1 in 2014.?
My wife was registered with an E 121 in Jan 2007 and I had registered in 1988 also on an E 121,we have not had any further forms from DWP, other than our EHIC cards originally from Spain and more recently the updated cards from DWP.

Elraso has solved his problem
Apologies but I think making a mountain out of a mole hill with more questions is not a good idea
This subject has been covered many times on here and any questions call Newcastle

"Not an important point, but to reassure those who do not have a ‘B’ anywhere on their card. "
An important point, and one that I've had to point out many times over the years here on EOS: there are many regional differences in Spain, one size does not fit all. Posters from Valencia seem to have a hard time believing this sometines! Having only lived in the Balearics and Andalucia, I actually have never seen a SIP card and have no idea what SIP even stands for. I also have no idea what SUMA stands for, and only vaguely know what it even means.
