Diabetic Driving Licence requirments

There is no diference in Spain to the U.K. Both are covered by European Law and the three year renewal is mandatory in Spain as well as U.K. Obviously, ionce your U.K. license becomes due for renewal, you need to apply for a Spanish License which requires the passing of a couple of dexteritory tests that are taken on computers - nothing to worry about - just like playing computer games. Once passed you get your Spanish license. I did mine 3 years ago come December so will have to renew it then. Of course the new European directive regarding the number of 'hypo's' experienced is due to come into force about now and I understand that the fear is that DVLA in the U.K. will interpret this more severly than other countries. More information on this is available on the DVLA and Diabetes U.K. websites but I have no experience as to how this will be applied in Spain - no doubt I shall find out in December. I haven't had any indication yet and assume I shall be notified of the requirements when I am informed of the pending expiration of my current license. I wouldn't worry too much - I am a 69 year old pensioner who retired here some 5 years ago. I have found the medical care to be first class and that includes, as well as my insulin dependent diabetes, 2 broken arms, an stroke and a heart attack. From my past experience I would rate the health care here to be superior to N.H.S.
