Handing the keys over
The Comments |
Hi All,
We have rented out our apartment and used our Lawyer to do the standard 11 month contract.
He is just about to pay the deposit and 1st months rent.
He has asked for the keys for Wednesday for a specific reason, however the contract doesn't start unitl the 15th November.
Are there any legal problems that we could face in giving the keys to the tennant early?
Or should we have an accompanied visit and keep hold of the keys until the 15th?

Don't give the keys until the date on the contract. We have been in property management for many years and it is a legally binding contract on both sides. There could be many issues at stake not least the payments.

Thanks Lifeline,
That is exactly what I thought, that if he had the keys prior to the agreed start date on the contract, then legally anything that trasnpired within the premesis would be OUR responsiblilty and NOT his.
Hence why I thought I would clarify that in my mind, that I was correct.
