Renting to Russians

Hi all,

I have just joined this site, this is my first post.

My wife and I are also trying to learn Spanish.

I am an owner of an apartment in Spain and wish to rent it out, I have had a couple of enquiries from Russian nationals who have asked for my passport details because they need to produce them to the Spanish embassy in Russia so as they can obtain a visa for entry into Spain.

Has anybody heard of this before? does anybody know of any problems that they have had renting to Russian nationals?

My friend married a Russian and I remember the hoops he had to jump through to get her to visit the UK. To be allowed to leave the country, the Russians have to be invited  to stay somewhere to be able to get an exit visa. This is probably where the passport details request has come from, but a formal letter should suffice to enable them to get a visiting visa, maybe even your NIE number instead? It is no different to me asking the Spanish for their NIE numbers when taking a booking from them.
