uk license in spain

hi, is a full uk driving license acceptable in spain? long term?

i know you can drive in spain, using a full valid uk drivers license, when on a holiday etc but wasnt sure about once iv moved to spain?

This topic has been extensively covered so have a read through relevant threads. In short, a UK photo licence is in theory now valid even once you become a resident in Spain. In practice, I would advise exchanging it for a Spanish one if you plan to stay permanently, to avoid any possible confusion with the police if you are ever stopped. It's not difficult to do (you don't have to take a test, other than a very basic health check). If you plan on bringing a UK registered car, you must re-register it once you become a resident. I should have maybe looked more, for other threads what would have answered my question. I didnt have a lot of time when i asked.

yes, but........you will still need to pass the periodic medical and carry the certificate, since a UK licence is not proof that you've got one, whereas a Spanish one by definition is, and if you get stopped.............oh, what the heck, I'm flogging a dead horse here. Do whatever you like.

And its a little known fact to comply with the law here all drivers need to take their compulsory medical. I have been stopped a couple of times asked for the license and they are much happier when they see the Spanish one that they recognize!
