Thanks for the advice about cheese, we have a new 'Consum' locally so I will take a look in there. As for the tea, it is cheaper in Iceland than in UK at the moment, €1.50 for 80 Tetley Bags!! As for the cheese biscuits Iceland sell 'Jacobs Cheeselets' in tubs, so I buy as many as I can afford!
Going back to the original 'thread' 'GerryUK' please make sure you have plenty of cash for the first few months because you seem to be paying out for every thing to begin with but it does slow down and eventually you get the hang of it! You usually pay cash for all the legal things like NIE,Padron, Residencia, Change of Licence, from then on it depends on whether you are Renting or Buying! We bought through 'Parador' who thankfully went under eventually after costing a lot of us a lot of money, check out your 'English' speaking Solicitor as well, we got caught out there as well but thankfully they left Town when everyone turned on them. The only money we had was what we had sold our English house for! Our only income was my Pension to begin with, my husband got a job but was last in first out when the 'Crisis' started.

Hello BOBAOL, I agree with you about avoiding ICELAND but it is the only place I can get British TEA which I buy in bulk from ICELAND when doing an Airport run, I also miss my Mature Chedder Cheese and Jacobs Cheeslets at Christmas, but apart from that when we first came here we used to go regularly but haveing tried the Spanish equivalent of most foods I found British food was sickly sweet or stodgey so stopped going except for tea and Cheese. Does anyone know of any Spanish cheese biscuits as I can't find any in our area.

Hi Campasol & Roly2, Firstly you can buy real cream here it is called' NATA' you can get pouring or double! The artificial cream you talk about is 'CREMA' and is like a custard, made with milk! You might have fast food where you live but here in proper Spain we have Tapas and other snacks which are considerably more healthy! We don't see obese children here they are quite a normal weight! I haven't seen any pot bellied Dad's around here either, yes they are laid back but thats better than being up tight like you seem to be! They are not in a hurry like people in Britain, 'Manana', is their favourite saying and I do the same now and feel a lot more relaxed than I ever did in UK! I don't think it's very nice of you to point out my spelling mistake either!! I have had a better life here in the last 5yrs than I had in the 60yrs I spent in UK and all on less than €1000 a month.

Hello Maddiemack, we had the same idea when we came to Spain, we wanted to live with the Spanish not hundreds of English etc. ASpanish friend of ours who was born in the area of Mazzaron went back there recently to visit a long lost school friend, she was in tears when she return! she said it wasn't Spanish anymore no body understood her in the shops, mostly English, and the fowl language of the youngsters frightened her. Her old school friend was only visiting her parents but said she wouldn't come again as it was 'an English Ghetto' a bit like Pakistani's or Indian's in England. Whatever anyone tells you from that area, if you want to live the English way with clubs and pubs then that area is for you, if you want to live the Spanish way then go inland. The Spanish way of life is very laid back, slow and healthy, they are very helpful and love it when you speak Spanish to them. Murcia is one of the better places to live and at times depending on what sort of house you want, quite cheap.

Hello DonLochnagar, please don't take this personally but I have been to Campasol and Mazzaron and I personally would liken the whole area to a giant Council Estate in England! Mine and my husbands idea when we came here was to live like the Spanish and with the Spanish not with Hundrens or thousands of English. We live on a small estate max 200 houses, we are not a community, this was very important to us because I have never heard of one yet that works where the English are concerned!! We are approx. 2000' above sea level and about 150klms from the sea, we are surrounded by National Parks and mountains. In the summer our weather is usually hotter than on the coast but in the winter it is colder, we nearly always have a heavy frost during the winter months. We have found that when ever we go down to the coast things are so much dearer than in our area. Everyone is different and so are the places we live in, I am not a snob I was born in a Council house as was my husband but I just love the area where we are.
