Hi all,

Just wondered if there was still general weakness in prices in the L/T rental market at this time? Any pickup over the summer? Has the bottom been reached yet?

I moved to Germany back in spring, but it is much more expensive here now than it was when I lived here some 20 months before. I am sure the governments fiddle our inflation figures. Think I might return for a while....

Best wishes from Autumnal northern europe!

Hi all,

Now back in northern europe again (Berlin). Today was the first day of summer and it was 12 degrees, cloudy and rained all day. We have had showers over the last week or two since I returned. Some days have been nice, though, and when they are, you really appreciate them!

No regrets about leaving Spain. None. I feel I belong in a country where the seasons visibly change and there is some order to everything and people don't just lie around soaking up the sun and achieving and learning nothing. It was never my style.

Anti-Euro hostility here is extremely high. Can't say I blame 'em, either. I always believed the Germans would end up footing the bill for this ruinously costly experiment and this has been proved correct. For the first time I saw some demonstrators out and about in the city centre calling for Germany to quit the Euro. This is just the beginning. We are entering a period of great conflict and division right across the continent. Tragedy is that is could all have been avoided. Too late now, though!

Best wishes all,

I'm finally happy again now I have left Spain. Good luck to those of you who stick it out, though! I'll be thinking of you and am keeping in touch still with a few who have decided to stay for the time being at least.

Paul.

Fair enough.

For the avoidance of doubt, I should just state that whilst I AM leaving Spain I am NOT going back to the UK. I had a chat with a very pleasant young Scottish economics post-grad in a bar shortly before Easter and we both agreed we would rather DIE than ever go back to ANY part of Britain as it now is, such is the diabolical state it's now in for all sorts of reasons.

All countries are facing difficulties in these challanging times, but some are doing better than others. Spain is bust, as we all know. But so is Britain, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Belgium and Greece. Further afield and more worryingly, Japan and the US are staring bankruptcy in the face, too. Even China is rumoured to be about to go into meltdown following its unsustainable boom in the face of total worldwide demand collapse.

The "safe" social-economic areas which remain are receding fast!

Someone said:

"Spain is a great place to live .......if you have a steady income from whatever source and are well-insulated against £/euro fluctuations."

No it isn't. It's a dump. It's been 40 years now since we used to joke about the quality of services in Spain and what has changed? OK, so we can now drink the water. But it tastes awful. And that is about all they can show for the billions and billions and billions that has been showered on this country from the EU and holidaymakers and settlers. "You can now drink the water". Well big deal!

I have had enough too. I will be gone before the end of this week. Good luck to those of you who stick it out in this country where nothing and nobody works. The "Spanish Dream"? -You can keep it.
