OK folks, lets revisit this matter 2 years on!

We now have water and electricity meters installed on (most of) Camposol.

Aqualia and Iberdrola read the meters and we get accurately calculated charges for usage using official rates.

Weirdly, the Aqualia charges are still arriving with MASA headed statements, although we all know they are actually produced by Aqualia and simply reprinted with a different logo!  We pay MASA.

The Iberdrola situation is clear and upfront.  Everything is branded Iberdrola and those of us who are non-resident have access to our official account through their on-line website.  We pay Iberdrola.

BUT WE STILL DO NOT HAVE LFOs!

Our escritura publica is dated 9.1.2006 (I have no idea how the system allowed it to be issued without a LFO!).  As we are now more than 4 years past this, can I now claim my money back???

(ps....another document we are trying to extract from MASA is the architect's form of 'building completion'.  It's no wonder folks don't use lawyers when buying in Spain!  If they want to dot all the Is and cross all the Ts, nothing would ever get done!)

Les D I think you are wrong about your caqlculations on fuel. When I used Goldcar in March I had a Berlingo which had 50 Euros of fuel, was charged 75 Euros. I couldn't use all the fuel in 10 days and returned the car with in excess of half a tank. So they made 25 Euros upfront and in excess of 25 Euros at the end. To my way of thinking 50 Euros is too much cost to avoid refueling the car. By the way have you ever checked the capacity of the car you've hired with what you are being charged.  I suspect your estimate of 10 to 20 Euros is on the low side!

I think you need to read my posting again!

I would also be surprised if you were brave enough to return the car just running on fumes.

If the yellow light isn't on when the car goes back, I've failed!

Thread: Solmar Car Hire Charges

Just a note for regular hirers that you can get a year's 'excess' insurance cover for £49 from insurance4carhire.

(And you can get £10 of that back in the first year from Quidco cashback.)

This covers wheels, tyres, glass, keys, etc. in addition to any 'excess' which may be on the basic insurance offered by the hire company.

It's not usual to have excess on the basic insurance in Spain, but I have known it - Victoria Car Hire at Alicante for instance.

As for the discussion on full-to-full versus full-to-empty, in my experience the full-to-full brigade charge €10 to 20 more anyway.  So, for me, the ease of just turning the car in without worrying about it being checked over is more beneficial.

  • Vouchers are issued in denominations of €25/€50 or local currency equivalent.
  • If a voucher is partially redeemed the remaining balance is void.
  •

So, as they don't give 'change', the loss of any unused portion would negate the saving.

The best way is just to get an Electron card.

Whichever other broker folks recommend, I always seem to find them more expensive than Argus.

Example of 7 days 22-29 April at Alicante (Clio/Fiesta 5dr):

Argus €97

Econorent €108

DYS €110

Carjet €114

Skycars €122

Can anyone beat €97?
