The second runway at San Javier becomes operational in Feb 09 and the airport will be open extended hours thereafter hence the change. It is just a couple of days that the flight depart am although I understabd that the departure time for the 5.30pm flight is now 4.30pm. 

I have also heard rumours that Easyjet will start flying to SJ from next summer although in view of recent happenings maybe that wont happen.

The new runway has already been built however the local council will not grant permission for it to come into use until the Airport fulfills certain criteria. The main one (and stumbling block due to cost) is that they are required to pay for sound-proofing to approxi 3000 dwellings in Los Alcazares before the 2nd run way can be used and thus extend the operating hours for civilian use.

 

I suspect that the new airport at Corvera will eventually replace San Javier (as was the original intention)
