As with everything there are some things cheaper in Spain and some things cheaper in UK at least perhaps we have the possibility of getting the cheaper stuff from the UK whereas the Spanish may well be stuck with paying more.

Picking up on what Tamsin pointed out that furniture in Spain being expensive, I would have to disagree. We have bought all our furniture out here in Spain and have to say to get the same quality hand built furniture and same style (that's if you can find the same) in the UK would have cost me considerably more.

Infact most of the main stream furniture outlets in UK do not have the same quality or style furniture most keeping cheap Chinese imported stuff which rarely differs from one shop to the next. You really have to seek out the specialist boutiques in the UK to get the same stuff as here and then pay sky high prices. Do not also forget that Spain is one of Europe's largest manufacturers and exporters of furniture.

If you want cheap imported furniture you can still get this if you search out the poligonos.

Thread: just a little warning on window tint and ITV

I had my UK registered left hand drive car re registered here in Spain last November and can comment as follows:

I gave the job to someone who specialises in car registrations importation etc and all he required was a copy of the escritura, NIE, and the UK documentation for the car. First the car was ITV'd and then he handled the rest of the transfer work. I did not have to pay any importation or registration taxes as the car was registered to me for more then the previous 6 months so the only cost I incurred was for the ITV traffico charges and the agents commission in total around €800.

The transfer took about a week to do and the car was in my possession the whole time the agent took care of the ITV appointment, transfer new number plates and also made sure the IVTM (road tax) was paid in the costs. When I was looking to do this I contacted a number of agents all of whom were giving me varying information some stating that I would liable to the importation / matriculation tax even though the car was in my name for more then 6 months due to recent changes in the law etc.

So from my experience unless you speak to someone who really knows what they are doing you may end up forking out more then you need to!

Incidentally I originally imported this car from Germany to the UK and handled all the importation transfer myself and it cost around £600 including £400 for the road tax!

Thread: new law about buying a car in spain

 Hi Onelifeliveit,

I totally understand your reasoning for window tints i.e. keep the sun / heat out, stops the cars interior from fading or cracking, more privacy and better security and yes it can make most cars look far better as long as it isn't too dark a tint.

Unfortunately the Spanish regulations means that any window tint has to be accompanied by documents signed by an authorised installer to show that the tints comply with the law. Yes I agree in your case this is over kill as all they really need to check is the light transmission which they can easily do with the right equipment as someone else has suggested.

I did actually look into having my car tinted in the UK before coming to Spain but found out about this law and decided I would get it done here in Spain but have yet to do so. Someone else suggested that to just keep the sun out you can get clear film that will do the same whilst that may be true in the UK, from the couple of installers I have checked with you cannot get such a film which complies with the ITV rules here in Spain.

Which brings me onto a question for Onelife did you get all the windows tinted in the UK i.e. the front passenger and drivers side glass? if so did that pass the ITV or did you just do the rears? I know this is possible in the UK but here in Spain from what I have been told you can only do the rears.
