David, as a regular blogger on EOS I have to say that the management is neither faceless nor indifferent. Several of the bloggers here have made suggestions about improving the experience for ourselves and our readers, and these have been acted on, and even improved on, so everybody gets more out of the site.

All I would say to you is this is a free resource, and its contributors have a wide and varied experience of life in Spain. We may not suit everyone's requirements, but we do consistently get around 10,000 views a day, so we must be getting something right. And before you ask, I'm nothing to do with the management, but I will stand up and be counted on their behalf.

To the people who are saying the forums don't get many posts, I would say, go to the blogs section, where there is a lot of activity, both in posting and viewing. I average 10,000 views a month on my blogs.

Something else to consider is the general trend away from forums. They are closing every day. On EOS, the forum is a small part of the site, and a part that visitors don't seem to want. Views and shares for the blog posts are going up all the time.

I've read this with interest, and I have to say I've stopped using the forum because of the negativity - but that's not EOS's fault, it's down to the contributors.

However, I have to say I do not believe the site is at all amateurish. When I set up my first blog on EOS 18 months ago, it was a walk in the park - and I'm very technically challenged. The site is geared to help the contributors and readers, and when we point out where something can be improved, Ian listens. That's the sort of behind the scenes stuff you don't see front of house, but it's what keeps the site up there in the top expat sites in Spain.

I average 10,000 views a month on my blog - that's good going for an amateurish site!

Hello, Mik3, and welcome to the forum. I'd say 6 weeks would be considered a long term let, especially with the current situation over here. People will be glad of any income, so whereas at one time they may have wanted either short term holiday lets or long term residential lets, there will be somebody who will be happy to lease out their place to you.

I would think around the Alicante area would be a better place to base yourselves, as it's pretty much in the middle of the south-eastern coast line, so you can go north or south. Valencia is a bit far up for that, and it's probably more heavily populated. That can be a bit intimidating when you first arrive here.

Thanks everyone - particularly johnzx, for that really useful link. We had the AGM today, and voted for a 10% increase, and also to cut back on non-essential work for the next 12 months. Our Administrator confirmed our suspicions that the fixed rate increase would be a change in the way we paid our fees, and so we needed to reach unanimous agreement.

The meeting went a lot better than anticipated, and we do seem to have reached some sort of common ground, which is good.
