This part of Almeria has been featured on the TV programmes about buying holiday homes or permanent moves . There was one today which actually featured a property in Vera Playa. But if you go to catch up you will find many. There was also one last year which featured the  life of a local estate agent which is due to have a second series shown shortly. Just watching these will give you a good insight into this part of Almeria 

Prices on the coast are more expensive but go inland 20 minutes and you get super value for money but it is much cheaper than Costa del Sol and that applies to living costs

if also has the best weather in mainland Europe particularly in the winter 

Because of the TV publicity prices are now starting to move upwards as there is little new build so suggests you come over soon to see how the land lies

This could describe UK in the 50's 60's and even 70's so it is just that we are a little ahead of Spain in our economc and social development 
Even more recently it took the UK Banks a long time to accept laibility for PPI and UK builders frequently go bust leaving people in the lurch. Another example of flat investment sales with guaranteed rental income which were overpriced, never let and when guaranteed rentals end found to be vacant and over rented.
So whilst a lot of criticism is justified Spain is now at least moving in the right direction, slowly it has to be said and the Banks are playing the system as they do everywhere and future buyers, provided they are sensible, will be protected

Have a look at Almeria around the Mojacar area. Probably the best winter weather in Southern Spain and relatively cheap. Quite a few TV programs have featured is are recently and if you source these it will give you a good idea of the area and opportunities. You should be able to rent a decent villa for early 2018 but as is situation in all of Southern Europe in the winter months it does go chilly in the evenings and good heating is important, either a wood burner or central heating and using AC as a supplement

In general country properties are more difficult to sell because the Spanish are not interested but there are moderninsh properties in a country location perhaps just outside town where on resale you will have a property of interest to the local market as well as new Expats from not only UK but other parts of Europe

So you can have a country feel but still be in an urban location- same as you can in UK

The property market in Spain is not so investment driven as in UK except perhaps in certain locations and in the major cities which means the Spanish buy to live in the house and not with an eye on resale at a profit
