It appears that the Marxist government of José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero  has acquiesced to its brothers in the Communist run trade unions and agreed to all their demands.  So no air strike then?  Well not until the next time when the same people demand half a million euros a year each for three hours a week putting suitcases on trolleys.

On the matter of the other “air strike” the UK should also be bombing Zimbabwe and deposing Mugabe!
How would we have liked it, if someone like the French had told us to stop having our English Civil War and to sit down and discuss it, or we had interfered in the French revolution and told them to stop guillotining people. I am ashamed of the £millions we are wasting over Libya whilst our elderly people are starving or dieing of hyperthermia.

@Sanchez1

“It doesn't take a genius to lay some bricks does it.”

Presumably this is a rhetorical question ….

If you employ  idiots to build houses your country’s housing stock will always be low quality.
There’s the answer!   But didn’t we know this already?

Apart from the fact that most of the actually "labouring" on Spanish building sites during the "housing boom" was performed by South Americans and Africans.  Now these jobs have gone these people are (slowly) returning home.

@ Bernardrose

The dates are around Easter, two Spanish bank holidays and at the start and finish of the vacation season:

April:  20th, 21st, 24th, 25th and 30th
May: 2nd, 14th, 15th, 19th and 20th June 13th, 23rd, 30th  July: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 15th and 31st  August: 1st, 15th and 31st

So far these are just proposed dates (except for the 21st April), meant to put up the pressure. If you are planning to fly to Spain, it’s better to avoid these dates. If you already bought tickets for an announced strike day, we suggest to wait a little while until more is certain

What do Spain, Greece and the UK have in common?

One: They are all bankrupt

Two: They have all had their finances handled by socialists with their pinko "fairness for all" socialist ways. They have tried to make everyone equal, as is their wont, and it hasnt worked.

Name one socialist government, in the UK and Spain in the last 60 years, that hasn’t left the country in a dire financial mess.

Sure there is a huge unemployment problem in Spain, particularly amongst the young, but this is explained partly by the low quality of the workforce. There are 300,000 Spanish people of working age who can not read or write and 955,000 who have only completed primary education and more than 1 million have not completed secondary education.
Rather than unemployed they are unemployable.

Given the state of the UK education system it is probably worse there!
Blame the teachers – or should that be the families who did not receive a decent education from the teachers!

@comadreja

Would it be impolite to ask why you call yourself the "weasel"?

Following your disclosure that you read El Pais – a Spanish cross between the Guardian and the Independent - you presumably have sympathy with ALL the low paid, not just airport workers. Unfortunately low wages are a fact of life in a capitalist society simply because we can’t ALL be paid high wages (or even average wages).

It is also an unfortunate but inescapable reality that when a “business” is “privatised” people are made redundant – a result of reorganisation to manage performance efficiently. Blame the capitalist pigs.

The threat of the airport workers strike has already caused a huge loss in confidence in Spain as a holiday destination - should the strike go ahead it will be an economic disaster for Spain (as discussed by others on this blog) and could be the final nail in the country’s coffin.  What will follow next is anyone’s guess, but living standards will fall to level not seen in Spain for fifty years.

Perhaps the trade unions will secure a few years of Marxist rule (people adjust to anything – particularly when they have to) and Spain will emerge a regenerated and vibrant country. Like Russia for example.
