Hi Voraciousloud. My recommendation would be Torre de la Horadada, 30 miles south of Alicante, bordering with the Murcia province. We've been comint to the area for over 20 years and have never tired of it. There is a good mix of Spanish (40/50%), British, Scandinavians, French, and other northern European nationalities. Worthwhile spending a few days here to check it out.

This should be straigh forward if you have a digital code, which will enable you to to everything through the Agentia Triburaria website. Otherwise, I agree that it will be best to use the services of a local gestor.

Same here. I rent out two properties near Murcia airport and used to recommend Dickams/doyuspain to mhy renters, but having just experience the most apauling service, surcharges and uncertainty about whether the credid card excess deposit will be refunded, I will from now on advise against using this company.

Torre de la Horadada would be my area of choice. It is not in Murcia as such, but just on the border between Costa Blanca and Costa Calida, five minutes from San Pedro del Pinatar. Torre is very popular with Northern Eurpeans seeking better winter temperatures and sunshine. There you'll get a good mix, as it is around 50% Spanish.

My suggestion would be to set up an account with an FX company. I have used Rationalfx, Cambridge Mercantile and and VFXPLC in the UK and have benefitted from much better exchange rates than those offered by banks, plus free transers, except for one of these companies . I can buy the Euros online (process similar to trading shares in real time) or by phone and the money is in my account within 24 to 48 hours. My bank (also La Caixa) has never retained the funds after reciving them.

I guess from the US Cambridge Mercantile would be a good option, although they do (or used to) charge arund $15 for the transfer. I'm sure, though, that there are other US-based companies to explore.
