Hi Paddy,

The Spanish government posts a lists of certified translators in Spain, by language and region. Perhaps if you want to make sure it's translated correclty, it's worth contacting one of these translators. I'm sure there will be many with experience translating financial and legal documents.

Go here and click on the link to Lista de Intérpretes Jurados:

If you're in Ireland, it won't cost much to send things by post (or maybe you can email them the docs). Or you may even be able to find a Web site that gives translations of the documents, if they are pretty standard. I've found Web sites with translations of standard apartment lease contracts in Spain, for example.

Good luck,

Kronos

Hi Ismana,

I just wrote about getting English teaching jobs in Spain  on another thread, so I don't want to repeat myself! But basically it's really quite easy as long as you go to a big city with lots of corporate offices (they all study English) or a place with lots of tourists. If you go somewhere with tourists, there may be enough stores, hotels, restaurants, etc. who will hire you for private classes. Another option is to contact EF -- I know that they do telephone English classes in Spain. My Spanish friend in Madrid, for example, has two classes a week over the phone with a teacher living in Cadiz!

You may even find work as a waiter or teacher... Or you could probably get a job cleaning or taking care of kids. In fact, many Spanish families like to have English-speaking nannies for their kids and may even give you free room and board.

The only problem with not having a working visa is you can't get a job in an office or anywhere with a lot of exposure to the public... In case the police find out and then the employer (and you) get in trouble. That's why you're stuck with "behind the scenes" jobs or with private families..

Good luck!

Hi,

I can give some insight on teaching English. I did it for nearly six years in Madrid and some of my closest friends taught in San Sebastien, Valencia, Avila, Logrono, Cadiz, Leon, and Barcelona. I also got offers for jobs in Burgos and Vigo but decided to stay in Madrid.

Basically, if you come to Spain as a native English speaker and go to any decent sized city, there are bound to be at least a few English academies or enough people willing to sign up for privates. Having a TEFL certificate helps but is not usually necessary, because the demand for teachers is just so great. You're best off going around early September, when the academic year is about to start and academies are hiring like crazy. Another good time is just after the winter holidays (at least in Madrid) because a lot of teachers go home and never come back! If you just do a search on the Internet for the city name and then "academia de ingles" or "clases de ingles" you should find out the names of some English schools there. Send them your CV and let them know you're planning to move to Spain to teach English. It's unlikely you'll be able to set up much before coming here (unless the school is actively seeking teachers and has placed an ad), but you can at least make initial contact. Don't be dismayed if they don't respond -- in big cities like Madrid, there are people walking in daily handing off CVs in person at the academies. They have no need to seek people over the Internet...

Good luck. :)
