Hi All
For the past 20 years or so I have upgraded and maintained many of the green and white marble tiled floors for "The Body Shop" in the UK.
I plan to move out to Spain after my daughter finishes her A levels next year. Probably to set up a marble restoration and maintenance company.
The best advice I can give is.....
Get a someone who only does marble maintenance. "Marble polishing" is a bit of a misnomer as it doesn't really mean applying polish, as a cleaning company would do. It involves diamond grinding with a specialised flooring machine (bit like a buffer but slower and heavier) Followed by a process called vitrification or crystallisation where a chemical is worked into the floor with a wire wool pad on the machine until the floor gleams. The whole process should take no longer than 2 to 3 days for a 3 bed apartment and can be used/walked on straight away. I would guess the cost would be 20 to 25 Euros per square meter (that’s what I would charge) and would need doing every 5 to 8 years. The vitrification process should be done every year but is a lot quicker and cheaper, as the diamond grinding is the biggest part of the job. In fact if I had a couple of jobs to do in Spain I would happily nip over and do them. (hope that's not spam)
Hope that helps
