Hi. I have ended up with a large amount of money in euro notes. I can only pay sterling into my UK accounts and if I open a euro account in the UK I can only make deposits by euro non-cash methods. All I want to do is pay the cash into an ordinary euro savings account (not an e-savings one) and I about to open one with Halifax Espana over the internet. I then plan on taking my 'wad' to their Barcelona branch on the plane when i next visit. I have an NIE number so opening the account should be straight forward but I wonder if I turn up with the cash and my account details/savings book/card/whatever if I will be allowed to pay it in.
Like other people I don't want to be given the third degree over possible money laundering accusations so I don't want a wasted journey.
Has anybody done this (or similar) already?
I look forward to hearing about your experiences.
Mike, London. (British citizen)
