I would like to add one more attraction in Jaen Province, the Nature Park of Sierras de Cazorla, Segura and las Villas. Cazorla is very beautiful village and the huge park offers nice and gentle walking routes.

We had a vacation in Cazorla couple of years ago and did a lot of walking. All the routes are following rivers or brooks, going round reservois, visiting waterfalls etc. The abundant water cources makes this park quite unique in southern Spain. Along the routes you have the chance to visit some scenic villages like Cazorla, La Toba and Castril.

You will find the route descriptions in English, maps, GPS waypoints, driving instructions and a lot of photographs in the Topwalks website.

The Río Borosa route, leading up to the Órganos reservoir, is the most popular in the Cazorla park, but we really enjoyd the routes starting from Jardin Botánico El Hornico. The Fuente del Artesón route, which is following most of the way an ancient Roman road, is our favourite.

We spent 5 months in Grazalema a year ago. We did some hiking in the nature parks of Grazalema and Alocornocales.

As mentioned, the locals are friendly and helpful, but the language is a problem. We speak Castilian Spanish, but the accent in Cadiz is... well, difficult. And still, they are so proud of it. "Isn't it great! If we go 15 kilometres to Alcornocales, we cannot understand them either", they kept telling us with a broad smile on their faces.

Anyway, I prefer this part of Andalusia to Costa del Sol. And, there are some very nice hiking routes. You will find the route descriptions in English www.topwalks.net/en/index.htm

I recommend the routes in Grazalema. In Alcornocales you will need a permission to visit the most interesting routes (those are not included in the above mentioned website). The routes starting from Grazalema and Benaocaz plus the Villaluenga-Llanos de Libar  route were our favourites.

Our favourite towns/villages were Grazalema, Arcos de Frontera, Zahara de la Sierra and Ronda.

In a restaurant you should try Gazpacho, Lechazo, Osso Bucco, Pierna de Cordero, Conejo, Champiñones Rellenos, Caracoles, Revuelto de Gambas, Bacalao, Sepia, Calamares, Mejillones...

One more thing:

June is hot, but it is not bad at all, if you go higher up to Sierra Nevada. For example Trevelez is some 1,300 metres above the sea level.

I would go by car. There are underground parking houses in the centre of Granada.

It is a nice drive, if you start from Guadix and drive to Calahorra (there is a castle famous from the movie El Cid), then to the Puerto de la Ragua and over to Alpujarra in the national park of Sierra Nevada. Then I would have lunch in the Piedra Ventana Restaurante (the food is fantastic, like home cooking - not gourmet, but delicious).

You can see the roads here:

In case you are interested in walking, there are a lot of routes in Alpujarra and on Guadix side of the mountain as well. The above mentioned website is my favourite guide to the walking routes.

This is my favourite guide to the walking routes in Spain: topwalks.net - Walking Routes in spain

It covers 200 routes in Asturias, Cantabria, Pyrenees (Aragon), Valencia and Andalusia. It is very thorough and comprehensive, highly recommended.

And it's all free, of course.

Sorry, I still don't have the rights to link....
