Can someone tell me how I can find out when I might expect the fibre optica rollout in Benalmadena move towards the area where I live?

Whilst language is absolutely critical, the real issue is one of integration. Unfortunately most of the foreigners who move to Spain do so to retire after having spent all their lives living in one country and visiting the world as a tourist. As a first generation English Asian I clearly remember the complaints levied against the Uk Asian population in the 1970's of not taking the trouble to integrate and instead trying to create a mini Bombay in London or wherever. This is what many foreign residents do in spain today. Additionally moving to a new country is not easy. As someone who has lived in the USA, hong kong, Dubai and Kenya for work, each new country required me to completely change how i operated and how i lived to fit in with My new country Whilst this is exciting when you are young I think this is very difficult when you reach retirement. My advice has always been to not sell up completely but move to Spain for a year and rent. In the year do not go home. At the end you will know if you are really suited.

Thanks Samson.  I think I will go for this option. How do you top up? Do you have to go to the shop or can you top up over the internet/

For some time I have been looking for a solution to provide broadband access when I use my holiday home in spain. We do onaverage use the apartment for between 10-20 weeks a year, and on this basis would find it difficult to justify the cost of installing a fixed line, ASDL offering from Telefonica etc.

It was recently suggested to me that I should use the vodafone pay as you go internet modem. Having visited the site www.vodafone.es and spoken to the customer service team, the cost appear quite reasonable. The modem costs €189 and you can buy pay as you go access for about €20 a time. This if it works would appear to be ideal for us to use when we visit. Apart from the access to e-mails- my 2 teenage children would b lost if not able to communicate daily with friends through beebo, myspace etc!!

Has anyone had an experience of using this and would you recommend it?

If not can you suggest a good alternative provider.

Much appreciated.

I purchased a 3 bedroom apartment in Benalmadena, CDS in February this year. Being busy I was keen to find someone who could provide a full service for  me. After having done alot of work on the internet and having been very dissapointed with both the quality and pre-sales services offered by some of the bigger companies (particularly Andalucian Dream Interiors- that is another story), I contacted Rosemary Smith of Sunshine Interiors in Arroyo Del La Miel who was recommended on this forum. The service has been really excellent and the quality very good. The moment I contacted Rosemary from Ireland she sent me by e-mail, lots of examples of what they could offer. My wife and I met with Rosemary and her partner just before we completed and put together a package to fully furnish our apartment. This included everything from beds, lights, chairs, tables , curtains , curtains etc right down to waste bins. Rosemary kept us fully up to date on everything, with the result that when we opened the door to our new apartment for the first time we just had to walk in and not do anything!!. I cannot recommend Sunshine Interiors enough, they are really excellent!! Not once did we have to chase and everything was done on time and with great care, and great value when compared with some of the other packages on offer!!

Also being a resale , we needed a bit of painting and a few repairs carried out. Rosemary arranged this through her son, John Smith, who runs Sunshine Property Management. Betweeen the 2 of them the apartment looks fantastic.

It was just great being able to deal with one familiy who between them not only managed all the fixtures and fittings, but also painted the entire apartment, rebuilt built in wardobes did alot of small jobs and even waited in the apartment for a day for Endesa to turn up and change the amp meter. What service!! Infact John after having accepted the initial quote, came back and then told me that he had found a cheaper way for me to do some of the things I had asked him to do. Unheard of in Ireland.

Sorry for being so long, but you do get so use to poor service and quality that when you actually meet a company that lives up to its brand you want to let as many people know as possible!!
