Hi guys, thats exactly what i did do!I had my own interpreter there but he was only allowed to speak when i was being questioned. He wasnt allowed to speak to me before or after that so everything else was conducted in Spanish. This seems grossly unfair to me!This case id being conducted by one female judge who seems very biased in favour of the Spanish builder im sueing.Im really worried that i will not get justice.

I recently took a Spanish builder to court because he tried to rip me off for extra work on my house.I am using a Spanish lawyer.I was told an interpreter would be in court. This interpretor only translated from Spanish to English when i was being questioned. The rest of the time i did not know what was going on!Witness's were called who told lies and forged documents produced by the builders lawyer.I was only aware of this after the 'judge' adjourned the case to get a futher important witness into court. This builder signed a contract with me for a fixed sum,no extras unless i personally agreed them before.I was never asked to agree any extra work during the build but before my house was finished i was emailed a list of extras which increased my price by over 50%!The builder has no written proof that i ever agreed to these extras as it did not happen. What are my rights to use an interpretor in court so that im aware of what is being said?.I was not even allowed to speak with my lawyer during this hearing. This all seems very unfair and loaded against me!

It seems that most of the replies are from Brits living on the Costa Del Sol (little England!!)Not one person has mentioned Granada,a beautiful city, lots of culture,The Alhambra Palace,a great variety of night life,it has the skiing and is only 1 hours drive to the beaches of the Costa Tropical and an airport plus 1 hour drive to Malaga airport.I personally would choose Granada over Malaga any day!!

I live in a mountain village called Polopos, just 6 miles down to the beaches. Its an idyllic place to live if you like the quite life away from the busy beach area. Not suitable for our friend but i would definately reccomend he tries Granda City.

On the subject of headlight change to a right hand drive car,I bought over from the UK my 1.9 deisel Citroen.I went to my local Spanish garage who supplied me with a secondhand set of headlights for  30 euros and charged me 20 euros to fit and adjust them.Cheap as chips! Alex from Polopos.

Hi,

I owned a Belgium people carrier for 7 years. After bringing it into the UK I applied for UK registration.Part of the process is that you have to sign a document to say you have changed the headlights and speedo to UK miles and standard.I cheated on this saying I had done this when in fact i just fitted a set of headlight deflectors(bought from Halfords) and bought some stick on speedo numbers from a motorcycle shop and fitted those at 30,50,70 and 90 mph.As this is done by post,no one was any the wiser.I was never stopped by the police to check this. This vehicle passed its MOT for 7 years in this condition. They always checked that the headlight deflectors were correct but never checked the speedo.I recently sold this vehicle on ebay. The new owner had it MOT'd in a garage in Wiltshire and had no problem in getting it passed. He then set off to live in Bulgaria. All he had to do on reaching France was to remove the deflectors and he was legal in Europe. When you buy a second hand vehicle in Belgium it comes without a number plate as the plate belongs to the owner not the car.You go through an agency to get a transit registration and third party insurance to enable you to drive the car out of Begium. While in this registration office I met 2 Belgium guys who live on the Costa Del Sol who regulary fly to Brussells, buy a second hand car,get the transit reg, then drive them to Spain, register them as Spanish and sell them. They make a good living from this. So,if your brave enough, buy your left hooker in Brussells as they are much cheaper to buy there.By the way,the left hand drive section of ebay is a good place to look for Spanish registered cars.  Alex from Polopos,Costa Tropica.( this small white village is a 15 min drive down to the beach and 1 hour drive to Sierra Nevada skiing.Great views down the mountain to the sea. This is real Spain!)
