Just got my home in Spain at last but I was most disapointed in the way Bank of Santander forced me into house insurance & life assurance.
I have adaquote life assurance to cover my home in UK & Spain, in fact more than enough.
I had also organised home insurance with a company in Spain to start as soon as the signing process was done.
On the night before signing I was told by my laywer that Santander wanted a crazy life assurance figure for one year and an expensive home insurance. I told them I had each sorted out and the next day the bank contacted me and told me if I didn't take their life assurance & home insurance I would not be given the mortgage. I was realy annoyed as I had forked out cash on Santander already with valuations etc.
They forced my hand but I was told later that I did not need to take life assurance with them. Can anyone clarify this. I have also been told that banks do this regular on the day of signing.
Thanks... Ste1
