Poetry About Spain - "Costa del Nostalgia"
On the Costa del Sol, they started the trend,
Of breaks for those going round the bend.
It was here that it all happened first,
Some say it turned out for the worst!
Back in the day, the Costas looked like 'real' Spain,
Lost now in order to make a quick gain.
Back then, hotel tower blocks were all the fad,
Built for people like your mum and dad.
Because in the sixties, they were so impressed,
Lay by the pool and had a good rest.
Or down to the beach with a bucket and spade,
All bought and paid for with money Dad saved.
A luxury it was, a holiday in the sun,
So you made sure you had lots of fun.
Went out for meals, stayed up a bit later,
Mum and Dad unaware, sis off with the waiter!
Mum in a bathing suit, Dad with a sombrero,
Sis in a polo neck, in love with camarero.
Nobody yet thinking about sun protection,
Sis drank the water and got an infection.
Time to go home, week was enough,
Sis won't budge, wants to stay, in a huff.
Back on the plane, donkey under dad's arm,
Sister can't speak, too smitten with charm.
Message from the pilot to my sister's delight,
Passed on from Pedro saying he'll write!
