I think there used to be a sort of super-rooster on the cartoons, he would roll up the feathers on his arms and say something like: 'I mean I'm gonna, I say, I mean I'm gonna knock you down'.

These days, I’ve rather given up on morning television so I may have got the quote wrong.

Anyhow, and since I can't afford a second holiday this year and tell you about my adventures at the Zoo in Rotterdam, here's a picture of our rather pugnacious chicken, which runs all the animals in the Yard (except my son's girlfriend's dog, which had gone for a walk when this picture was taken).

The reason for her strength, a kind of fowl version of the Popeye legend, is because she eats dog-food.

The eggs are tasty, mind.

That rooster went by the name of Foghorn Leghorn, from the deep south of USA. Long running war with the farmyard dog. His schtick was "mah name.. ah say my name is Foghorn boy. He would then discover that the cigar given to him by the dog had changed into a stick of TNT. Harmless fun - he would keep a spare suit of feathers in a closet to - re clothe himself.
