Has anyone else not had the broadband etc installed after being on the original list??

We put our names down as I thought it was a great facility for CdA.

We received an email saying they had our details and would shortly be contacting us.  Haven't heard anything from them.

Did they charge you from the date of installation or from October or whenever it was supposed to start?

We won't be onsite so will need to liase with our keyholder.  Have heard a few comments about the installation and am a little concerned about not being there to check out exactly whats been done.  Or shouldn't I be worried about it?

I haven´t been charged yet so I guess they start from now when the instalaltion is done. Our keyholder helped us with letting them in and she left the codes from A2Z in the apartment. We will be over in end of February and try it out.

I had it installed just last week and it was easy to arrange with them by email to do it on a day of our choosing. I opted for the basic install by A2Z (you can then connect to web via cable they supply) and got the wifi router from Phil Tann (regular poster on EOS) who I'd highly recommend - easy process all round

Hi how much does the package cost from A2Z and what do you get with it, and what else do you have to get to be able to have full internet access please.

All answers would be appreciated as simplified as possible lol.

Thankyou

Gill

I went for the cable connection at 65euro plus VAT, and then WIFI router from Phil at 50euro (he has previously advised this price on other threads) so all in about 130 euro incld VAT. I understand that Phil's router sends a strong enough signal that you can get it by the pool wheras the A2Z may not be so good. Or if you don't want wifi you have the cable connection for 65 plus VAT. Then once you are connected you pay 33.63euro for 6 months internet connection via your community fee through Mileniun. Contact either Mileniun or A2Z per below, just email them or phone, they speak English. Then you can IPAD, Kindle, surf to your hearts content.

Dear Mr.

Thank you for your request. To get the internet connection you will need first a MODEM, you have two options, here you are the cost:

 Cable connection: MODEM: 65.45 €+VAT

WIFI connection: WIFI MODEM: 131.82€+VAT

For the telephone line connection, you have also 2 options:

 -          Pay just the connection of the line, 30€+VAT and you can put your own telephone handset

-          Buy a telephone 40€+VAT installation of the line included

The installation fee must be paid in advance; it could be by credit card or making a bank transfer into our account

As soon as we receive the payment we will confirm you an appointment for installation

Should you require further assistance do not hesitate to contact us

Yes the community is contracting for 2Mb and this is what was supplied up until the beginning of Feb when it dropped to 1Mb.

I'm currently chasing A2Z over this and dispite sending them speed tests from across the whole resort they still arn't accepting it a wider issue than just me.  They are supossed to be coming to see me tomorrow moring so I'll let you know what happens.

Phil,

I know earlier when there were discussions getting a company (other than PW) in to provide broadband it was thought too expensive to be able to get the necessary bandwidth.  This was probably a year or more ago.

The reasoning being if they didn't spend the money then in summertime when the usage spiked there would be speed issues.  I'm not a techie and have only basic knowledge but I believe the view was the contention ratio would be too high.

I don't want to be cynical but as A2Z is ex PW I find it hard not to be.  If as you say it seems the speed is down already to 1Mb.  Could it be that we just don't have the bandwidth once all the users came online and that we'll only get 2Mb if you use it at the times no one else will be online.

Not  sure which is better...either they have just cut the service in half or the bandwith is inadequate for CdA. Probably the first as it can be fixed.

1Mb is no good for us as one of the big uses would be skype and with video 1Mb won't cut it.  I'm sure 1Mb is still adequate for basic browsing (no video/audio clips or streaming).

Shane

I am paying for 8 mb and rarely get that. I have done speed tests and find ping is also too high. Voip phones work poorly. I have given it a try over the winter but am concerned what will happen when summer comes and more users. I will have to look at the wimax system .

 Hi Shane,

This isnt a problem caused by the number of users, the system is limiting us to 1Mb so it either a deliberant change or a mistake on someones part.  Either way I hope to get it sorted soon.

For the majority of owners it's the only option.  Wifimax is not really a starter as it relies on an receiver dish which is against the rules unless it can be hidden from sight and so would rule out all those with a downstairs apartment inless they can come to a deal with the owners upstairs to have it location on their terrace out of sight.

Had mine installed in December and initally was getting 2MB when we were out at Christmas but when we came back at the begining of February it was just over  900Kbps. Still works ok for browsing but would not want to stream anything at that rate It's not what I expected or signed up for.

So you can add my name to your list Phil if it helps.

Cheers

Jay

Lets hope you have some success with them Phil.

I'm a little bemused that they need to come out and see you to work out if they have downgraded the service.

Unless they think your apartment is the bermuda triangle of broadband.
