Selling your car.
A word of warning if you sell your car.
We sold our Spanish registered car to a Spanish used car dealer in Calpe. He seemed a nice guy and said he would handle the paperwork. He paid us in cash and off we went.
A few months later a large amount had been taken from our bnk account by the SUMA office. When we enquired about these charges we were informed that the car is collecting paking fine all over the place and because the car is still registered in our names the fines are being billed to us. The dealer isn't interested in our complaint and until we track the present owner down we continue to pay the fines.
If the car is still registered to us maybe we should find it, steal it back and hold it to ransom until they pay the fines.
Has anyone had the same proble?

Hi Bobbie
Apparently it is quite a common thing in Spain today. A friend of mine traded in her Car a couple of years ago, to a dealership and they told her that it would only be re-registered if the car was sold on . It cost my friend 800 euros through a notary to re-register the car in the Dealeship name.
Also the Spaniards and other individuals do not take re-registerering a Car into their name very seriously in Spain. Therefore the previous Owner will have the problem of paying all the outstanding Parking and Speeding Fines for this car until this is done.
Regards
