A new life in Spain for Team CL

Two 40 something year olds and their 3 year old, who never really got much quality family time together, have decided that life demands a new adventure. So, here is our unfolding story of our new life in Murcia.

The start of the adventure!

So, here I am in the middle of the English Channel heading for Santander writing my first ever blog. After living in Spain for a short while some twenty + years ago, I am finally returning for the longer haul. In tow is hubby and my gorgeous (well most of the time - let's start this out as an honest story!) 3year old.

Packing up and selling up the UK house was way more traumatic than I ever expected and as for saying goodbye to friends and family, well all I can say is that I should have bought shares in Kleenex. There have been several OMG what on earth are we doing moments to say the least in the last few weeks. But as I sit watching the sea, I know we are so doing the right thing for what works for us as a family.

So dear readers (rather hoping I get more than one!)', this will be an account of how the three of us get on with starting our new lives

 Hasta pronto!

I am sure you will soon settle in to being residents instead of holiday people. You have a big advantage in already having a home there and lots of friends. Yes it must have been hard saying goodbye to a life your have known here but just think of us shivering through the UK winter and you won't want to be back LOL.

Wishing you every success - it's a big decision as you have the child. "This could be heaven or this could be hell". We're all trusting it all works out for all of you!

My hubby Peter and I are planning on selling up next year, retiring and moving to Spain. Hoping around Pilar de la Horadad. We are all geared up for this move which we have been planning for quite some years. We are now over retirement age.......hubby 65, self 66......still working part time, to help get more of the mortgage paid. However.......this evening, we have watched a documentary on Spain. Now we are worried. Seems it could be difficult to get medicines over there. How true is this, can someone help us out please. Hubby is diabetic, type 1., so needs insulin, and other drugs. I am asthmatic, so need mine also. This has given us a rather big worry. What can people tell us please, whom are living over there. We are still dreaming of a life in Spain, and hoping this will soon come true> Thanks very much

Hi - It was great to read your first post and I wish you well in your new life.

Sunshine - I only saw the second half of the documentary last night and it was rather grim, wasn´t it? One word of reassurance though, the pharmacy issue seems to have been resolved and they have accepted a payment plan from the Valencian government.

I find the medical care here to be absolutedly excellent and far superior to the UK. As pensioners you will get the same care as a Spanish pensioner and at the moment this means you pay 10% of the cost of your prescriptions. Don´t let this spoil your dream!

Hello Claire T.
Thanking you very much for your post. We did notice that the programme was made in September and having heard nothing else, wondered if it was just the press!! Our friends living near La Managa Strip, have no problems either. We have no objection to paying 10% towards our medicine, at all. What you have told us, has given us our peace of mind back, thanks a lot. Now full steam ahead to get the kitchen decorated after Christmas, and hope the house won't throw any more wobblies at us as it has done this year. We could well have been over in Spain by now, if it had behaved itself! Thanks once again and Merry Christmas.
