Hi everyone,

This is my first blog to introduce myself to you all.

My wife and I are moving to the Costa Del Sol in the next couple of months and will need all the advice and knowledge from people who have done the same.

We spent five weeks in Benalmadena in October , December 2016 just getting a feel for the place and loved the area.

We will be starting a business when we get there but still deciding on what, we looked at a few bars and cafes whilst there but get the impression that the success rate of these is pretty low, Also the leases seem to be very expensive for what you are actually getting.

Another reason we spent the time there at the end of last year was to find a long term rental property but nearly everything we saw on the internet was not actually available when we contacted the agent concerned.

I may be wrong but it seems that there are so many agents all selling and renting the same properties so when a property is gone they do not remove it from the listings !! Very frustrating.

Any advice for a good long term rental agent would be gratefully appreciated .

We are very open to what area essentially anywhere from Malaga to Marbella including inland locations such as

Alhourin el Grande or Coin.

Unfurnished would be good as we have all our furniture in storage in Germany but would also consider furnished.

We have noticed that a lot of the rental properties have very poor furniture so thats why we thought unfurnished would be good.

Well I will leave it at that for today, I have loads more questions but will limit it to only a couple at a time.

Thanks to everyone who took the time to read this and also to any of you who can offer advice, and of course I will keep blogging during the whole proccess of our move so hopefully it can help others who are doing the same in the future.

Good morning,
Good luck with the move!
We are heading for Mijas Pueblo in May - can't wait.

Hi De Jacey,
Mijas Pueblo is our favourite place also
Spent a lot of time there looking for a potential Business but very hard to find something as this is a really good place to start a Business. We also would like to live in the Pueblo but haven´t found a suitable rental property yet.
Good luck with your move.

We are thinking about renting an apartment in the center of Fuengirola but it has no parking.
We have a 9 seater minivan that we will bring with us,how is the parking in Fuengirola at the hight of summer? We were there in October and it was quite difficult even then.
I think I know the answer but is there any good free parking near the center?

Have you considered somewhere like Manilva or Sabanillas?

Hi jsevanbergen,
Thanks for your comment,
We haven't been that far West as we are thinking that staying in the Fuengirola, Mijas area is so central to get to anywhere. This way wherever we decide to open our business we will not be too far.
To be honest I have been searching for a house or apartment to rent for quite a while now and I am realizing that the agents don't really take us seriously probably because we aren't in Spain at the moment
I find it very frustrating that searching on the internet is mostly pointless as most of the long term rentals advertised are not actually available.I was dealing with one agent who had over 25 long term rentals available on their site for under €600 pm but when I started asking about them I got a very short reply stating that nothing was available under €800 pm.
this was in the Alhaurin & Coin areas as we thought it would be quieter and a little cheaper half an hour inland. We would prefer unfurnished as we have all our belongings in storage but would take furnished if it was really nice.
Maybe we should just get a holiday rental for the first month so we can physically go to agents whilst we are there.
That way we can look at a few different areas also.Just wanted to get as much sorted as possible before the move as we will be very busy after we arrive.
Nothing worth doing is easy!!

I suggest Sabanillas and Manilva because they are much cheaper than Mijas and Fuengirola and less touristy, so there are many more residential lets. I have a friend who lives there in a 3 bed apartment by the sea for 500 Euros a month. Fly to Gibraltar which is no more than 30 minutes drive away. Gibraltar airport is also very small so much easier to get to and from.
We live in Estepona, and Tunbridge Wells. We would like to earn a living in Estepona, but it's not that simple, so we stay here to earn our daily bread.

Hi,
Yes we liked Estapona a lot but had the same thoughts that earning a living in that area could be harder.
We will definitely have a look in the areas you suggested when we arrive, thanks for the information.
