Nerja, a city on Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast, was once a small fishing village, but has evolved into a beautiful, bustling tourist spot with sandy beaches, restaurants offering many different cuisines, and a sightseeing adventure that is perfect for a getaway.

Located on the Costa del Sol (the coast of the sun), Nerja is the perfect place to visit if you want a warm summer holiday. Just 45 minutes from Malaga you can easily reach Nerja by car, bus, taxi or airport transfer from Malaga Airport.

Nerja has roughly three hundred days of sunshine year round, with the majority of the rain coming through in the winter months. The warmest months for vacationing in Nerja are July and August, with temperatures ranging from twenty to twenty eight degrees Celsius (sixty-eight to eighty-five degrees Fahrenheit. However, while the winters can be a little rainy, the temperatures can still be mild, ranging from seven to nine degrees Celsius (about forty-five to forty-eight degrees Fahrenheit) during the coldest months, which are usually January and February.

With over nine kilometers (almost six miles) of beautiful, sandy beaches, you really will be spoilt for choice on where to spend your day!

Burriana Beach is the most popular beach in Nerja, with its beautiful setting and amazing beachfront restaurants. Enjoy freshly cooked Paella from the renowned beachfront Ajo's restaurant.

If you prefer something quieter, try Calahonda Beach, which is smaller and more secluded than the other beaches.

The most famous landmark in Nerja is the Balcon De Europa with its stunning views across the sea.  Its name is popularly believed to have been named by King Alfonso Xll who visited the area 1885 following a disastrous earthquake. Local folklore says that he was so impressed by the beautyspot that where the Balcón now stands that he said "This is the balcony of Europe".

There are restaurants galore in Nerja, offering different cuisines from around the world, including traditional Spanish dishes, Italian, American, Asian, and Thai, and French.

No matter what ages or interests, Nerja has something for everyone to experience. With plenty of hotels, bed and breakfasts, and holiday rentals for those extended summer vacations; it is definitely a tourist location that should be visited if you love beautiful beaches, warm weather, and sightseeing along the beautiful landscapes of the Costa del Sol!
