Discovering a new life in Costa Almeria

Having made the decision that full time work really is bad for your health,my husband convinced me that we should get 2 puppies and retire early. What I hadn't anticipated was that retirement would see us in Almeria, in southern Spain. This is our story from making the decision to move to our life here. For more posts read the full blog at http://relocatetospain.blogspot.com. What I hadn't realised was that I wasn't ready to retire so after 2 years we are back in the UK. However, when I am finally ready to retire - Spain is still in the mix.

Wow, Terreros is peaceful again.

2 weeks into September and it's true - the masses have returned home, you can once more get a seat in the bars and restaurants and the queues in the supermarket are no longer than 2 people. Spain has returned to work and left our sleepy little seaside resort to plod along nicely through the winter months.

We have also felt the departure of the intense heat, the evenings are cool enough for long trousers and the days are still warm enough for shorts. The pool is too cold to consider a dip, even after a round of golf, even Brandy doesn't bother to go in anymore. We have turned the temperature up on the shower and we no longer have to change clothes 2 and 3 times a day.

It also means all the activities and festivals have finished, the Sunday market will not be back until next June and we are left to make our own entertainment or sit in our villas until next summer.

So, this Sunday sees a group of us on a Treasure Hunt, there are about 50 of us in a number of cars, setting off at 5 minute intervals - more than that, at the moment we don't know.

I'll tell you all about it next week.

Hey,no problem, no offence taken, I read your 1st post with my tongue well and truly in my cheek!

BUT, to put the record straight I am not a southern softie, I'm a Yorkshire lass, born & bred. I had long trousers on last night when I went out, as did several others but my hubby is still in shorts 24/7. There is a total lack of pool splashing anywhere around us so it's not just us but there are still people in the sea. You'll probably still feel it very warm because of the summer you haven't had but trust me after acclimatising to the summer weather here, the water's got a definite chill.

Be nice to catch up when you are out, where abouts do you stay when you are here?

Good evening!

We are in North Cumbria. We bought a villa in Terreros 4 years ago..... one of the 'green-topped' villas. We spend the winter months out there ..and love every minute of it!

After the summer ( lack of!) we have had I am SO looking forward to a warm dip in the pool and keeping toes and legs well-aired until the 'Almeria ' winter steps in ..then I may wear socks!!!!

I think desperation has set in at our end.....if I don't have to break ice..I'll be in the pool on arrival!!!

All the best....and LOVe your pups..

Hiya, yes, we know the green roofs, we have some friends live there. You will be in for a surprise if you haven't been out all summer, the road from the main roundabout at Pepa's, all the way out past green roofs and up through the new golf course to Jaravea is being re-done and at the moment is nothing more than hardcore, there is a new big roundabout at the bottom where the new commercial centre has been built (and bricked up)near the school. I understand it is due for completion by next spring but at the moment is a real mess. We are currently staying in a villa up on Noravel until our house is ready, hopefully by christmas we'll be in our new place.

Thank you for loving our pups, we love them to bits and luckily they love it out here and have been great with the heat.

Hello again! We were last out at the beginning of May - and the road then was a real mess. I've been asking friends for an update - and the best I've got is...'it's disgusting..don't ask'!!! It seems that changes have taken place-but no improvement. It'll all probably come together in one last rush.

We are almost at the point of counting the hours until we are back....after counting months...then weeks..then days 'tis quite exciting!
We'll be sure to say 'hello'.

Best wishes
